Hooray, Shuyee Lee is back on the case!

Wonder who with be on the stand today. The defence did intend to call the reporter who interviewed LM about Homolka and said he thought there was something wrong with him and he needed help (but he thought it was substance abuse so maybe the defence will choose not to call him after all!), Romeo Salta (the lawyer LM e-mailed about Manny), a tape of French police saying LM claimed to have been raped in Paris before the murder, and the psychiatrist who.diagnosed LM with BPD before the murder.

Looks like Sue Montgomery is back today, too. YAY! Our English journalists are back! :happydance:
(No disrespect to the French journalists. They've done great, but I CAN NOT UNDERSTAND and google translate is really quite goofy. :) )

Yes...I understand Joe Warmington was there a while ago. His fellow sun columnist Michelle Mandel tweeted about it. But it appears he did not end up taking the stand after all. Here was the "expected list of defence witnesses" that the Sun posted.

    Expected defence witnesses:

    - Donald Newman, Magnotta's father. Leclair describes Newman as "schizophrenic" and "a bit of a mercurial person" who once brought Magnotta to a psychiatrist because he "thinks something is wrong with him."

    - Joe Warmington, QMI Agency columnist:

Interviewed Magnotta on camera in 2007. Magnotta had come to see Warmington to deny he was dating schoolgirl killer Karla Homolka. The defence says Warmington was concerned about Magnotta's behaviour and wanted to send Magnotta to the hospital because, according to the defence, "he thought there was something wrong with this guy, but nothing was done."

    - Dr. Tan, general practitioner, Montreal:

"Followed Magnotta through three different clinics" and "will testify ... about Mr. Magnotta hearing voices, feeling persecuted."

    - Dr. Joel Paris, psychiatrist, Jewish General Hospital, Montreal:

Gave one-hour assessment of Magnotta in April 2012, one month before murder. Diagnosed Magnotta with borderline personality disorder but prescribed no medication.

    - Dr. Renee Roy, psychiatrist, Pinel psychiatric institute, Montreal:

    Magnotta's current treating psychiatrist.

    - Romeo Salta, New York lawyer:

Says Magnotta claimed PETA was hunting him and that a man named "Manny" made him do things.

The following defence witnesses gave pre-recorded testimony in Europe during a "rogatory commission" in the summer:

    - German psychiatrist who treated Magnotta in a Berlin jail following his arrest.

    - Paris police officer who testified that Magnotta was in Paris prior to the killing and complained to police "that two guys raped him and stole from him."

Did we get the pre-recorded testimony of the police officer from Paris? This was during his previous trip to Paris that he made this claim? Has there been some error in translation because wasn't there some inference that LM was wanted for rape over there? Did he try a pre-emptive claim to the police there? Faking a psychosis? Knowing he was the one who committed the crime?

    Again...so confused. :scared:

Oh and they've got Dr. Tan on that list as well, although they've got him listed as a Montreal doctor. And he is the one from Toronto that LM followed around to 3 different clinics. I think Dr. Allard brought in all the info about him so he likely won't be testifying.

1st question from jury: What is the effect of Temazepam, Benadryl and alcohol together on someone in a psychotic episode. #Magnotta

    Shuyee Lee ‏@sleeCJAD · 1m1 minute ago
Watts says they don't have effect on making psychosis worse or better, depends on person. More an effect on state of wakefulness. #Magnotta

    Shuyee Lee ‏@sleeCJAD · 50s50 seconds ago
Witness says no effect on hallucinations or delusions. #Magnotta

    Shuyee Lee ‏@sleeCJAD · 1m1 minute ago
Witness says effect would have effect of making person more sedated. #Magnotta

    salimah shivji ‏@salimah_shivji · 45s46 seconds ago
Watts says effect depends on whether person is regular user or not, used to the drugs. Could make someone a little more sedated. #Magnotta

I had no idea that the jury could ask questions to a witness in Canadian trials. Go jury!

Now ask how someone who takes all that can stay awake for 36 hours? ;)

Dr Tan already testified, remember? He's the one who told us about LM walking like a monkey :bananapowerslide: And we heard all about his struggles to gain weight and his fear of HIV.

The prosecution said that LM was already diagnosed when LM started seeing him, and he didn't question it.

Crown wants to know about Benadryl. On the 18th and not the 24th of May right ? Yes as said in Watt's report. #Magnotta

2e question: ce qui s'est produit à Mount Sinai de Miami peut-il avoir été entraîné par le fait qu'il a cessé médication? #Magnotta

Translation: 2nd question: What happened at Mount Sinai Miami can be due to the fact that he stopped medication ? #Magnotta

    salimah shivji ‏@salimah_shivji · 58s58 seconds ago
Question 2: Could incident at Miami hospital be caused by #Magnotta stopping medication? Watts: Yes, I think it had an impact.

    Stephane Giroux ‏@SGirouxCTV · 1m1 minute ago
At #Magnotta, jury has questions for psychiatrist Watts. Just asking them on their behalf.

    Shuyee Lee ‏@sleeCJAD · 59s60 seconds ago
Psychosis in Miami Beach caused by meds? #Magnotta

    Shuyee Lee ‏@sleeCJAD · 52s52 seconds ago
Definitely not taking meds did have an impact. #Magnotta

    salimah shivji ‏@salimah_shivji · 1m1 minute ago
Question 3: To what extent could Watts' report be biased/influenced by info #Magnotta got from his lawyer, instead of his own memories?

    Shuyee Lee ‏@sleeCJAD · 1m1 minute ago
Report says #Magnotta not sure if used own memory to answer question or recollection of info from lawyer.

    Shuyee Lee ‏@sleeCJAD · 3m3 minutes ago
What extent can it be biased or influenced by info rather than #Magnotta memory?

    Shuyee Lee ‏@sleeCJAD · 2m2 minutes ago
Witness says #Magnotta self-report can be biased because doesn't know if it was own memory or what he was shown.

    Shuyee Lee ‏@sleeCJAD · 1m1 minute ago
Witness on whether #Magnotta making things up, it would come from his psychosis and not necessarily from things he was shown.

    Shuyee Lee ‏@sleeCJAD · 1m1 minute ago
Witness says he still believes #Magnotta was not making things up.

    Stephane Giroux ‏@SGirouxCTV · 2m2 minutes ago

Oh yeah. For some reason I thought he was another one who got all his testimony in without taking the stand through Dr. Allard. Thanks for the correction.

Not sure about those questions but I'm disgusted at the answers really.

If they wanted to do a proper assessment of LM, to find out if he was really NCR, it should have been done before he was given information about the crime or any discovery. Good to see the jury realizes this. Hope they don't get swayed by Dr. Watts nonsense.

Dr. Joel Watts was on the stand for five days: four whole days and this little bit this morning. #Magnotta

    Shuyee Lee ‏@sleeCJAD · 7m7 minutes ago
Watts was the psychiatrist who accompanied #Magnotta on the extradition trip back to Montreal from Berlin where he was arrested.

I guess he picked up a nice "chunk of change" for his work on this case as well. 3 days for trip to Berlin, 40hrs of interviews, untold number of hours billed for "research" and 4 full days on the stand. :notgood:

Looks like LeClair got a little ruffled by that question. Hate to tell you this LeClair but we're all thinking it. Why didn't you get your client assessed before you discussed the discovery with him? If you were concerned about his mental health and all.
