Ah! Dr Chamberland et la défense s'entendent sur un aspect vs hospitalisation de #Magnotta à Mount Sinai: on ne peut se fier à ce qu'il dit.

Translation: Ah! Dr. Chamberland and defense agree on one aspect of hospitalization of #Magnotta at Mount Sinai: one can not rely on what he says

And with that we have...

Sur ce, pause du midi au procès #Magnotta.

Lunch break :gathering:

One thing I found very interesting was the revelation this morning that the defense wanted to use Dr Chamberland but the prosecution had already booked him.

The defense wanted to use him even after the 20 interviews he did while LM was on the run? I wonder how that would have affected this trial?

Translation: Social worker was wrote (March 2003) he was considered very paranoid, he hears voices , said the defense #Magnotta

(Isn't this around the time he was arrested for the fraud? Was this the first time he used "voices" as an excuse for criminal behaviour? And of course the Crown cannot bring that information into the trial

No, This was well before that. And he never used his scizophrenia as an excuse afaik. His Dr did write a letter to the court as mitigation for the sentence, but LM's mother arranged that - LM had stopped going to his psych appointments for his injections and she wrote to his Dr and said she was really worried about him because he was so stressed out about the upcoming trial and was showing schizophrenia symptoms again.

Translation: Chamberland also reiterates that people who have borderline personality disorder can have micropsychoses #Magnotta

#Magnotta rapportait incidemment à Rouge Valley qu'il craignait que son cochambreur aille dire au personnel qu'il prenait du crack.

Translation: #Magnotta reported incidentally to Rouge Valley that he feared his roommate would tell the staff that he was taking crack.

(Is this roommate the one who was also charged with fraud? And wasn't this also the year he began stripping which evolved into the escort business? No doubt he was hanging with a drug crowd at that time. Or was his roommate the guy who became his pimp?)

No, this was before all that. This roomate was a roomate at Harrison House, the home for people with severe mental illness. They were pretty closely monitored there and had strict rules, I really doubt he would have got away with smoking crack in his room without being kicked out!

I guess he would have just said that he still thought that LM had personality disorders (the defence psychs all agreed that he does), but after seeing his medical records he realised that he also had schizophrenia.

ETA Chamberland now seems to be conceding that LM may have been psychotic during his 2003 hospitalisations, but due to borderline personality disorder rather than schizophrenia. So if he was getting paid by the defence instead of the crown, I guess he just would have argued the opposite!

And I guess it's much easier to come to the conclusion that you are being paid to come to when you don't even bother to read the medical records!

The time frame of that hospital visit they were discussing was March 2003. According to things I've read, I thought he was at Harrison House in 2001. By 2003 he was living in Toronto and working at the men's strip club? He was charged with the fraud in 2004? Against large companies that he must have gotten furniture and electronics from for an apartment? So was this apartment somewhere he was living in 2003 with a roommate?

He was in Harrison House in 2001, and again in 2003 after his grandmother didn't want him back. He left Harrison House at the end of 2003 and the doctor's notes said he was "homeless for a time". It was 2004 when he moved in with the Greek family and committed fraud. At least some of the electronics and stuff he got with the forged credit cards he was giving away to people in an attempt to get friends - it wasn't for his own apartment. After he left the Greek family he moved in with a Jamaican family.

I'm not sure if these Greek and Jamaican families were kind people who took pity on him, or people who saw the opportunity to pimp him out :s

Thanks. Wasn't it one of those families who got him turned on to Scientology?

So all the talk of working at Remington's stripping when he moved to Toronto in 2002 and then moving on to escorting based on that job is a tall tale? What about that guy who claims to have been his "manager" and says he met him when he was stripping at Remingtons? Just a fame seeker?

So confusing to keep track of what is truth and what is LM lies. :gaah:

Hmmm, I think you're right that he started stripping in 2002 and then escorting after that.... He was living at Harrison House in 2001 and then again in 2003. March 2002 his medical records said he was living in Toronto, but no mention of who he was living with. Was that when he had an apartment with someone else? And it obviously didn't end well, so he had to go back to Harrison House.

Crown announces to #Magnotta jury it has no further witnesses to call. Jury is dismissed for the day, back tomorrow morning.

So closing arguments start tomorrow? Or more legal wrangling on what can and cannot be said?

I'm already seeing a list of evidence and exhibits in Dr. Watts report that never made it to trial.

The official crown disclosure flash drive also contains a copy of Mr. Magnotta’s passport
application form signed on March 20th 2012. In the application he apologised for having
accidentally scratched the photo on his existing passport (which expired in 2016) and
asked for a new one to replace it. He added, “This situation is very stressful to me, I
sincerely apologise. Please believe me I am sincerely sorry.”

I wonder if he accidentally ruined his passport whilst trying to doctor it in preparation for fleeing to Europe.

#Magnotta Crown done but trial not over. The defence can ask judge for permission to call a surrebuttal witness (a rebuttal to the rebuttal)

salimah shivji ‏@salimah_shivji · 2h2 hours ago
If allowed, that would be tomorrow. Then a few days break (for #Magnotta jury, not lawyers/judge) before closing arguments sometime next wk

Oh geez...I'm sure the defense will find someone for a surrebuttal. This "medical history" testimony will never end! :tantrum:

Translation: This refusal of #Magnotta to meet all Crown psychiatrists is revealed in an agreed statement of facts filed in evidence pm Wednesday (2/2)

From Dr. Watts report...

I asked Mr. Magnotta whether he had a tendency to lie or try to manipulate others for personal gain or to obtain things and he said that he did not think so. When asked why he had said to his lawyer, Craig Penney, that he had a son in Peterborough, he responded that he did not know.

So LM does not think he has a tendency to lie or manipulate? And when called on a lie he "doesn't know" why he said it.
