GUILTY MA - Doctors Richard Field, 49, & Lina Bolanos, 38, slain, Boston, 5 May 2017 *Arrest*

Abbey Niezgoda NBC10 Boston (@AbbeyNBCBoston) | Twitter

Delayed start to closing arguments due to late juror. “She’s going to take an Uber,” court officer says. Court in recess as we wait.

Closing arguments begin. Up first - attorney Steve Sack for the defense. He didn’t call any witnesses before resting his case.

Sack tells jury in closing arguments that he never said Teixeira didn’t kill Dr. Richard Field. “Because he did...but he did it in self-defense and that’s not murder.”

@DARollins is in the courtroom to listen to closing arguments in the Teixeira trial.

Sack’s closing arguments lining up with what Teixeira told police. He claimed Richard Field killed Lina Bolanos. Sack mentions domestic violence as the victims families shake their head.

Sack says his client was afraid and knew no one would believe him. Says when he was arrested, he was babbling about “he killed my wife” because he “fully believed” he was having a relationship with Lina Bolanos.

Sack says his client was honest with police. Even told them he stole from the couple after they were dead because he “got greedy.” But says he only stabbed Field once in self-defense.

Sack says none of Teixeiras fingerprints were found at the crime scene. And if he was wearing gloves when he stabbed Bolanos as many times as she was stabbed, there would be blood on them. There wasn’t any.

Sack ends by saying although Teixeira stole from penthouse A and killed Field in self-defense, he’s not guilty of these charges.

ADA John Pappas begins closing arguments for the prosecution.

Pappas says this is about “the real evidence in this case and the imagined story the defendant came up with.” Calls Teixeira’s version of what happened “absurd” and “ridiculous.”

“He is a person literally caught in the act.” Pappas says it wasn’t enough for Teixeira to kill the couple, he’s now trying to destroy their names with a “preposterous” story.

Pappas is using a monitor and playing surveillance video of the route Teixeira took to get to the couples’ building.

Pappas shows surveillance video of the defendant outside the building - “he’s lurking out front, lurking out back, waiting for his opportunity.”

Pappas is holding up the BB gun Teixeira allegedly used. “What would Lina Bolanos do with this pointed at her?”

An image of Bolanos’ jacket appears on the screen. It’s bound with duct tape. Pappas asks the jury if the defendant’s story is true - “How does it get like that?”

“This attack on Lina Bolanos happened immediately... and it had nothing to do with Richard Field,” says Pappas.

Pappas is now going through the defendant’s statement to police - where Teixeira said Field flew into a murderous rage and killed Bolanos. Pappas says it “doesn’t have a ring of truth to it.”

The jury is again hearing portions of the defendant’s interview with police. “He’s attributing all of his own actions to Richard Field,” the prosecutor says. “Plain and simple.”

Lina Bolanos’ muffled phone call to 911 is playing once again for the jury. Her family is sobbing in the front row as they listen.

The texts sent from Richard Field’s phone to a friend are now on the screen. They include words like “gunman” and “serious.”

Pappas asks jury - why would Field send those texts if he was busy murdering his fiancé? “It doesn’t make any sense,” Pappas says. “There was one gunman. This man. Him.” He points to Teixeira.

Prosecutor on defendant’s version of events: “We’ve gone beyond preposterous. We’re now existing in the theatre of the absurd.”

Pappas now talking about this message scrawled on the couples wall. Says Teixeira wrote it as he was “crafting his story” and to “throw police off track.”

Prosecutor playing defendant’s police statement again. He told police he “loved her” as in Lina Bolanos, but when asked, he struggled to remember her name.

Pappas ends with a photo of the couple on the monitor. Their families are very emotional as they watch. He calls Teixeira “a destroyer of lives.” Asks jury to “do what the evidence demands” and find him guilty. Closings over.

Judge Mitchell, Prosector Pappas and Defense Attorney Sack are all back in the courtroom. They are discussing more clarifications with the paper instructions given to the jury

The jury also sent the judge a question. It was not read out in court, but relates to the home invasion count. Court is now in recess as deliberations continue

The defendant is a very bad man who needs to be put away for the rest of his life in a very secure prison, away from civilized society.

I hope and pray the jury returns a quick verdict and renders justice for these two innocent victims.

Jury found him guilty on all 7 counts. How horrible that he was yelling several times "do you want to know his last words" with the families present. There aren't even words for the type of garbage he is.

I can't believe this case/horrible defense even made it to a trial. But at least the jury got it right.
