LYNN (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) - Detectives investigating the disappearance of Giovanni Gonzalez have found the boy's blood throughout his father's Lynn apartment.

The Boston Globe reports the new evidence detailed in court documents was found in several places, including on the handle of a knife.

Authorities investigating the 2008 disappearance of Giovanni Gonzalez have discovered the boy’s blood throughout his father’s apartment in Lynn, on a red-handled knife, on a piece of wood flooring, on the bathroom threshold, and on the cap to a bottle of pine-scented cleaner.

The latest evidence, outlined in court documents in January, deepens the mystery about what happened to the boy, who would turn 7 tomorrow.

In East Boston, Giovanni’s mother, Daisy Colon, is holding out hope that her son is alive.

Colon discounted the discovery of Giovanni’s blood, saying the energetic boy often bled from cuts received while playing or riding his bicycle. The week before he visited his father, she said, he suffered a nosebleed.

She said she feared that investigators were giving up on the search for the boy.

“I feel like a lot of people have given up,’’ Colon said. “All the fliers that I put out, people have taken them down. You go to Lynn now, and you hardly see any of those fliers. It’s just frustrating.’’

Mother Sends Texts To Find Son
May 7, 2010 11:31 pm US/Eastern

The mother of a missing boy is on a campaign to keep people searching for her son, despite speculation he isn't alive.

A spokesperson with he district attorney's office tells WBZ the office is awaiting test results on blood samples taken from Gonzales' apartment.

Colon says that does not mean her son is dead.

"Giovanni had a bloody nose. He had fallen from the bike," said Colon.

With phone tips running dry, she has started a new high-tech campaign to focus people's attention on the search.

She's sending text messages with her son's picture, description, and circumstances around his disappearance.

"There's no doubt in my mind," she said.

Giovanni's father, Ernesto Gonzales, has publicly said he murdered the boy, but has not been charged in his death.

"It's not true. There is still no evidence that says that what he said is true," said Colon.

Bumping for Giovanni... I wish your dad would let us know where you are.

Ernesto Gonzalez case continued for defense evidence review

The case against Ernesto Gonzalez, the Lynn father charged with parental kidnapping and willfully misleading police in the 2008 disappearance of his 5-year-old son, has been continued until the end of the month so the defense can review the forensic findings.

[snip]

Parental kidnapping is punishable by up to a year in the House of Corrections and lying to a law enforcement officer carries up to 10 years in state prison.

Unless the commonwealth can come up with solid evidence against Gonzalez for the death of his son, he will be tried on just the two indictments lodged against him.

Do we know if LE found enough blood evidence to determine for certain Giovanni is deceased? I suppose it is possible his dad could have left the blood there knowing LE would find it and possibly believe Giovanni was deceased but passed him off to someone.

This is new info. Before LE seemed to be saying they couldn't determine if it was Giovanni's blood.

I too pray he is still alive and will be home soon.

Not sure about the blood on the mop, but other blood found in the apartment was Giovanni's. (I snipped the post below.)

Thanks I4G, from BeanE's post the places the blood were found would lead one to believe at one time enough blood may havebeen there for Giovanni to be deceased. I sure wish he would be found, one way or the other so his mom could have closure.

I wish they'd slap his dad with a no body murder charge and see if he talks then...

Originally LE said that the blood was not Giovanni's. So in Jan 2010 LE is now saying they did find his blood. And on the knife that Ernesto told the media he used to kill Giovanni with about a month or so after he was arrested. :(

This makes me so sad - I always kind of thought that Ernesto staged the whole thing so he could keep Giovanni away from his mother. Now it seems maybe Ernesto actually did what he said he did. :(
