“This is so unbelievable,” said TC, who lives across the street.

[...]

“I’ve had many conversations with him in the past and he’s very friendly, very cordial and very private,” said a neighbor, who didn’t want to be identified.

Neighbors said the homeowner has lived there less than two years. He rents out part of his home on Airbnb.

[...]

“I would be shocked if my neighbor was involved in it in any shape or form,” the other neighbor who didn’t want to be identified said. “I really would.”

Other neighbors described the homeowner as a man who kept to himself.

[...]

“We’re just hoping it’s not related to the missing gal at all,” the neighbor said of the search warrant and investigation at the home. “(We hope) that she’s alive and well somewhere.”

We talked one on one with @ChiefMikeBrown with @slcpd about the #MackenzieLueck case. Why they aren’t naming the person of interest, testing the evidence for her DNA, talking with Mackenzie’s dad, how his officers are doing. Much more coming up on @KUTV2News at 5.

Salt Lake City police confirm 'person of interest' in disappearance of U of U student MacKenzie Lueck | Gephardt Daily
[...]

Brown declined to answer reporters’ questions about findings at the scene, which was searched Wednesday by police dogs and officers with shovels focusing on the area of a recent bonfire.

[...]

Brown said the intensive investigation had been conducted mostly through digital forensics, and included the use of URLs, IP addresses, texting and apps, and that multiple warrants had been served.

The basement of the residence is used as an AirBNB, renting for $27 per night, and a photo of the bed in question was available online. See it below:

The mattress was reportedly given away in a social media posting published with the following photo:

A timeline showing the progression of Lueck’s case appears below:

June 17, 1:35 a.m. — Lueck’s return flight from Southern California arrived at the Salt Lake International Airport. Soon after, she texted her family in California to let them know she arrived safely.

At 2:42 a.m., she took a Lyft from the airport to North Salt Lake’s Hatch Park, arriving at 2:59 a.m. Her driver saw her getting into another vehicle before continuing with his ongoing Lyft assignments.

June 20 — Lueck missed a midterm exam at the University of Utah. At 4 p.m., she was reported to police as missing.

'We are very concerned': SLC police chief on MacKenzie Lueck's disappearance
Despite this being Day 11 since MacKenzie disappeared, he said they still are saying she is "missing" — but their concern is growing day by day. Brown said:

“That's why we've taken so much time and so much effort into following up on all these leads. We are very concerned; we need to find MacKenzie as soon as we can.”

There was some movement in the case with the naming of a person of interest, but Brown said police are being careful with how the proceed.

“We are not calling him a suspect, it's a person of interest," he said.

[...]

Mounds of evidence were pulled from that person of interest's west Salt Lake City home during an overnight search Wednesday into Thursday. Brown said it's going to take time to go through all that evidence they took from the home.

“They will be testing those in all different manners — DNA, forensics, whatever it may take to find out if this is indeed tied back to the disappearance of MacKenzie," Brown said of the collected evidence.

[...]

One of the most difficult parts of investigating Lueck's disappearance is that police have had to rely heavily on digital evidence, he said. The investigation focuses on a digital footprint and getting a lot of warrants. It’s complicated, sophisticated and takes a lot of time.

“It's going to involve IP addresses, URLs, there's texting apps that actually spoof — it’s anonymous, the text, so you don't know where they are coming from,” he said.

Police seeking discarded mattress in missing Utah student case
[...]

The homeowner, who has not been named, has spoken with detectives, said Brown. The chief said it is not clear if the person of interest is the same person Lueck met at Hatch Park.

[...]

On Wednesday night police learned that a mattress and box spring were given away from the home last week, Brown said. Whoever took the mattress and box spring is asked to contact police so investigators can collect them, Brown said.

[...]

Multiple items of evidence were collected from the home and are in the process of being analyzed, Brown added.

Neighbor of 'person of interest' in student's disappearance says 'many women' frequent his home
A neighbor of the man Salt Lake City police said is a person of interest in the disappearance of the University of Utah student told Fox News on Thursday that “many women” frequent his home.

“There were always so many women coming in and out at all hours of the night,” the neighbor, who did not want to be identified, told Fox News.

Police searched the Salt Lake City home of the man they said is a "person of interest" for about 19 hours for clues on the whereabouts of missing college student Mackenzie Lueckon Wednesday and Thursday.

[...]

“Sometimes they’d [the women would] knock on my door because they were looking for the address since he has an Airbnb,” the neighbor said Thursday, adding that that the “person of interest” did not interact with the neighbors and “very much kept to himself.”

[...]

Appearing on “The Story with Martha MacCallum” on Thursday night, Brown said every hour investigators are getting closer to figuring out what happened in the case.

“There's still a lot to go through,” Brown added.

Instagram follow leads police to home of person of interest
Salt Lake City police say the search for 23-year-old Mackenzie Lueck is a digital forensic investigation.

It comes after investigators say an Instagram follow made from Mackenzie’s account played a part in leading them to the home of the person of interest.

“This is covering cell phones, computers, IP addresses, URLs, texting apps,” said Chief Mike Brown of the Salt Lake City Police Department. “This is very complicated and it has a digital footprint our investigators have been following since last Thursday.”

After executing a search warrant on the home of the person-of-interest in this case on Wednesday night, multiple officers were back on the scene Thursday afternoon.

They used what looked like binoculars to look at the home, but didn’t go inside.

Many officers were also canvassing the area. In the backyard, there are visible signs of areas where police have dug up.

Former roommates share experiences with person of interest in MacKenzie Lueck case
[...]

They shared an apartment in North Salt Lake in 2016. That apartment is across the street from Hatch Park, the last place MacKenzie Lueck was seen.

[...]

“It took about a month for him to even talk to me, just because we three guys, kind of all kept to ourselves. I just took the initiative to try to talk to him. He was just actually, very nice. Welcomed me into the apartment,” he said

He remembers his former roommate as someone who dated several women.

“I’d see girls, kind of come in and out very frequently. Sometimes they would stay for two or three days, but really never leave his room, like ever to get food,” he said. “In passing, just say hi to them. But yeah, it changed between a Latina girl, a brunette girl, a blonde girl. In three or four months, I'd say at least three, if not four or five girls.”

Another former roommate elaborated on the man’s dating habits.

“He had apps, dating apps. He was meeting a lot of people through those,” said a person who was a college roommate with the person of interest at Utah State University. “I don’t know how many people he has dated or met up with using those apps or whatever. I know he’s had a lot of, a long list of dates.”

This former roommate and the person of interest lived together for more than a year.

[...]

They have known each other for years, and although the former roommates lost touch, they spent an afternoon together earlier this month.

[...]

“I do find it shocking that people would assume that’s something he would do,” he said.

[...]

Neither former roommate knows if the man was dating or spending time with MacKenzie.

MacKenzie Lueck: What we know about the home police searched
A Sandy woman is giving a better understanding and insight into a house police extensively searched in relation to missing University of Utah student MacKenzie Lueck.

[...]

TC said her co-workers were talking about what happened when she came to work Thursday morning. She realized that she recognized the home.

[...]

Chatterton said the homeowner hired her in March to clean his home.

[...]

In addition to cleaning the man’s home, Chatterton said she also cleaned his Airbnb unit in the home’s basement. She described seeing something of note, that she indicated she hopes can help police in her investigation.

“There was cameras everywhere in the house,” she said. “In the master bedroom, there was three cameras in there.”

She said the cameras were set up in the master bedroom, living room, kitchen, dining room and downstairs in the Airbnb unit.

[...]

A man stopped by the home Thursday, saying he was staying through Airbnb and had checked in the previous Friday. The man said he didn't notice anything suspicious with the home or home owner.

He went inside to collect his belongings, and leave.

[...]

A shipment labeled as an adjustable massage bed arrived at the home Thursday.

Police said they received hundreds of mattress-related tips on Thursday, and they reiterated Thursday evening that they are only looking to speak to the specific people who personally picked up the mattress or box spring from the Salt Lake City home.

[...]

Everyone, including Chatterton, is hoping police are getting closer to finding MacKenzie.

“Scary, yeah,” Chatterton said. “I hope she's found.”

Private investigator explains what he thinks happened to Mackenzie Lueck
[...]

Weeks ago, randomly, Joseph met Lueck at a bar.

“She was a lighthearted bubbly person, full of adventure,” said Joseph.

[...]

“I became aware that Mackenzie’s the girl that went missing,” said Joseph.

So he did what he does best: he started investigating.

“I believe this was her first contact with this guy,” said Joseph.

[...]

“The guy that owns the house, the guy that’s the person of interest, lived across the street from that park in 2016, and was evicted from that residence — and that’s public record,” said Joseph.

“If he was premeditated in his interest to do this, he would have picked that park, had her meet him there, and then he would have drove to his house with her. And that way there was no way to trace him from the drop off point at the park to his home,” said Joseph.

Friends of Mackenzie Lueck spot activity on her Instagram account, turn over to authorities
The friends of missing University of Utah student Mackenzie Lueck told Fox News that they spotted activity on her Instagram account on Wednesday and turned the information over to authorities.

Lueck’s personal Instagram account liked a page called “fatherless,” around noon, and her friends quickly took screengrabs to document the activity. They said detectives also have the screenshot after they turned it over to police. The @fatherless handle had more than 47,000 followers as of early Friday but was only following 15 accounts—not including that of Lueck.

At 6 on @KSL5TV hear from someone who stayed at the AirBnB that police served a search warrant at in connection to missing 23 y/o #MackenzieLueck. Why her interaction with the homeowner, who is also a person of interest in the case, was so uncomfortable.
