And that does look like a big sun umbrella and not a rain umbrella to me.

Long shot,but I do know that that there are a lot of stray dogs in Portugal and maybe he used the umbrella when attacked by a stray dog or other purposes? ( guess I really don’t want to think about that too much...)

Yes. KM says that Cuddle Cat was up out of her daughter's reach where her daughter couldn't have put it and that is how she knew someone had taken her daughter. I had a few thoughts on this. Why would someone place cuddle cat there? This suggests to me that someone did this on purpose. Was it because the spot was easy for them to access? They'd have their hands full carrying the kid, and didn't want to bring something they might drop and leave behind? Was placing cuddle cat there a way to shush the child who may have woken: see dear? Cuddle Cat is just fine! Cuddle will watch from up here for a moment... and in that distracted moment, they grab her? It feels intentional. But why?

I wonder then, seeing as cuddle cat was moved, if they tested it for forensics/ dna, don't think that has ever been mentioned???

I really do think it’s a lifebouy. If you look closely, it’s a circular shape. I’ve added yellow lines to point to where I can make out the white stripes.

I will say that I have had doubts that the Smith sighting was Madeleine and her alleged abductor because I have always believed that the person who took Madeleine was someone with a vehicle that was parked near the light post of block 6. It is where the dogs lost her scent afterall.

Yes, I'm tempted to agree, so there's a car park at the back of apartment and one opposite the side of apartment too, I think, _ do correct me if I'm wrong, also no forensics really, so you would imagine they had gloves on, so then if you walk of with MM, how would you then manage to take the gloves off? Wouldn't be easy would it?

if one shot is overcast, and one is sunny and cloudy... kind of discounts them being taken right at the same time. but could be a few hours between photos.
road/track shot has a line of large reeds in the background.
beach shot and road shot both have the sliding door open. but no-one in sight. which seems odd. could photos be used to send to someone who didn't know CB, or didn't know the VW, as a coded marker photo.

Not sure if you have seen this "version" yet ..... same picture but those brown reeds in the background show up a lot more ..... I never noticed them (brown reeds) in the other picture ..... sorry for the poor quality .... I got it from a TV news video

In photo of VW campervan near ocean I marked a pattern of 4 bushes.
In photo of Praia do Barranco I marked the same 4 bushes and also very roughly I added the front of the campervan.

I am idly wondering why his dogs aren’t in the pictures.

You leave your keys in the door of the van and take a photo. That feels a bit odd to me, but I never was that interested in vehicles.

The keys caught my eye as well. I wondered why they were still in the door.

My guess ..... I have owned VW vehicles and they have a system to prevent people locking their keys in the car ..... to lock you must use a key from the outside .... so if CB wanted to open his sliding door it would be normal to leave the key there so when he closed it he could lock it again.

If he was going away a while , down to the beach or whatever , he would take the keys with him and presumably have closed and locked the doors too .

The umbrella is very odd to me. Its positioning suggests it has literally just been used for something, then placed there. The instant the van is driven again, it would fall over and would not remain upright leaning on the seat, esp on that bumpy dirt track.

There are a lot of despicable things that are discussed on many forums on WS. That is the nature of crime, unfortunately. Though I certainly understand your concern.
We need to make sure that no children are sleuthed or identified (other than the designated crime victims) in any way.

I decided to toy with this particular photo in the preloaded software on my computer. Its not photoshop, but it does adjust saturation, contrast and shadows. You'll be better able to see now, what the interior looks like.... See the umbrella behind the driver's seat? Just noting it... not sure what to make of it.

Now I see an umbrella , thanks ...... I admire your skills.

ALSO to you and others who have been comparing photographs of the van in regards to rust patterns and dents etc .... all I can say is well done .

I have many years experience in the autobody repair trade and have come to the same conclusions ...... and that dent (scrape) on the left rear side panel shows up at an angle , but often a straight on view it may not always show up .

When I painted cars I had to first make sure I did not miss any dents .... so it was a matter of rubbernecking from every angle of light trying to spot them.

Again , I say well done to those who pay attention to the smallest details and clues.

Nope,I cant see anything either
