I hope this incident does not incite sabre rattling.....

Hi guys, sorry if this has been asked before, but were any Americans amongst the dead?? This morning they said 23 and then that was changed and there was not any mention of Americans being killed, as they said that the US government wanted exact confirmation before announcing anything. When they go through the list of how many died and from where, over here America is not mentioned but they say there are 41 that haven't been confirmed where they came from. I noticed someone above has mentioned 1 Israeli, that hasn't been listed before.

Also one thing I would like to know: the spy agencies had intercepted the call that we have all now heard.......and obviously there would be a lot of intelligence activity in that area (well I assume anyhow)........there had been planes hit a couple of days beforehand but weren't they flying at much lower about 15000 feet or similar? The aviation bigwigs had not shut down that airspace, and while there had been planes hit, MH thought that they would be safe flying at 33000 feet. So here is my question: how did the spy agencies not know that there were weapons of this capability which are apparently extremely expensive and hard to get, in that area, in the hands of inexperienced idiots, and then give some warning to the aviation authorities? I find that a bit suspicious.

There were warnings/notificatons ... Delta Airlines stopped flying over that airspace months ago, so did Qantas, so did a British airlines. It was explained that each airlines makes its own safety determination.

On TV earlier today a specialist was saying that the US has a massive satellite that has been watching that area, and would have seen the heat of this missile fly, and that Australia is privy to the info.

I was just reading about a guy who was on the plane with his 3 grandkids. Their parents had decided to stay in Amsterdam longer so the grandad took the kids back to Australia because school was starting. Those poor poor parents losing all 3 of their kids. So heartbreaking.

Many airlines had taken proactive steps to reroute their planes to avoid this area completely.

Quantas Air Canada US Airlines have all rerouted.

http://www.cbc.ca/news/world/malays...7-navigating-airspace-over-warzones-1.2710775

"Earlier in the week, however, Ukraine claimed that a military transport plane was downed by a Russian missile.

That should have raised red flags among risk-reduction analysts, said Arthur Rosenberg, a New York aviation lawyer."

other Asian route carriers had avoided Ukraine completely since March this year.

"South Korea's two main airlines, Korean Air and Asiana, as well as Australia's Qantas and Taiwan's China Airlines said they had all rerouted flights from as early as the beginning of March when Russian troops moved into Crimea."

so why wouldn't Malaysian Airlines exercise caution and avoid this area completely??

In April European Airlines were notified of risk of flying over Crimea area as well

http://www.latimes.com/world/la-fg-...aine-airspace-plane-crash-20140717-story.html

"In April, European and American aviation officials warned commercial airlines about the risks of flying over Ukraine's Crimean peninsula in the midst of disputes between Ukraine and Russia, which annexed the peninsula. The European Aviation Safety Agency published an advisory highlighting the possibility of "serious risks to the safety of international civil flights" due to air traffic control disputes in the area."

I heard the US saw the last 3 planes that went down, which IMO means they saw this one too.

All posts are MOO.

I think Delta stopped flying over that airspace a while back, or so I heard on TV news earlier today. This link says they have no current routes over that airspace, which may imply/verify that they ceased flying over it months ago ... or may not. :)

"Atlanta-based Delta Air Lines said that none of its flights operated over the portion of Ukraine covered by the FAA security advisory, but added that it would stop routing flights over any part of the country."

thanks -- I have just edited my post...earlier information that I had has been updated. It just frosts me that once again mismanagement/lack of proactive thinking has cost MAL passengers their lives (((MOO)))

I realize that nutters in Crimea or Russia fired the fatal shots but geeze louise.....it's a festering hostile part of the world .... why not take some proactive measures like the other airlines??

I know .. I don't get it either. Especially as they had actually shot down several (military) planes earlier.

And I don't think MAS were the only ones. Earlier today they were showing a radar pic of the area, with all the planes that were heading over that space now turning around and heading away.

They say it is more expensive to fly around the space for some (fuel/time), but what a price to pay now .... all those lives. :(

please tell me they will also finally admit they saw MH370 too (((wishfully MOO)))

I don't get it!! They just showed flight aware (or similar) and they are there flying above the area. 12 planes flying by now. Do they think they are safe right now due to the media?

I don't think they turned the satellite their way until after

Presser at Schiphol airport any minute. Are you around ZaZara, I think it will be in Dutch?

If anyone finds a live link, pls post. I'm looking too.

I know that Emirates was behind the MH fatal flight .... but was ordered back to Dubai. Seems like a small number of airlines were using that route.
