Jury Selection Begins In Edgewood Mass Shooting Trial

BEL AIR, MD — The man who is accused of killing three and injuring two others at his workplace in Edgewood will stand trial nearly three years after the shooting. On Tuesday jury selection began for the case of Radee Prince, 40.

Usually jury selection in Harford County takes place at the Circuit Courthouse in Bel Air.

However, due to social distancing requirements because of the coronavirus, it was reportedly moved to a new venue: the Havre de Grace Community Center.

About 40 people showed up Tuesday for jury selection, according to WBAL, which reported the process is expected to run through Friday before the trial begins Monday, Oct. 19.

Harford County prosecutors have indicated they are seeking life without parole in the case.

Radee Prince Case: Jury Selection Begins In Trial Of Man Accused Of Killing 3 People, Injuring 2 At Advanced Granite Solutions

Jury selection for the trial is expected to take a few days and is happening at the Havre de Grace Community Center to allow for social distancing.

His trial had been set to take place last year but was later delayed to 2020. In April 2019, he was deemed competent to stand trial after a judge had previously determined he needed further mental health evaluation.

Prince had already been convicted in Delaware for a separate shooting on the same day. He was sentenced in 2018 to 40 years in prison for that crime.

Psychiatric experts testify in Advanced Granite shooting trial; closing arguments set for Tuesday

The defense called its star witness, forensic psychiatrist David Williamson, Friday, but lengthy cross-examination meant his testimony finished on Monday with assistant state’s attorney Timothy Doory grilling him on his determination that Prince suffered from major depression with psychotic features, post-traumatic stress disorder and a brain injury that leads to rash decision making.

After Williamson’s testimony finished, the prosecution called its own expert, forensic psychiatrist Travis Klein of Clifton T. Perkins Hospital Center, who evaluated Prince as part of a court order examination.

The trial will continue Tuesday with closing arguments and jury instructions. Judge Yolanda Curtin said it is also likely the jury will begin deliberations that day.

Plead not guilty (insanity defense). Held without bond.
Trial (murder) began on 10/13/20 and ended on 10/26/20. Jury started deliberations on 10/26/20.
In Delaware charged & convicted of shooting an acquaintance: Trial was 5/8/18, charged with attempted murder, jury found him guilty of attempted manslaughter. Sentenced (8/31/18) to 40 years in prison.
