Dellen Millard case takes a strange turn: Aspiring gangsta rapper accused of selling him alleged murder weapon by Ann Brocklehurst
Matthew Ward-Jackson, charged with weapons trafficking in April, has almost no web presence under his own name. Instead, the 27-year old with extensive tattoos on his face and body used the online aliases @Krucifix14, Krucifix North and @BIGiisho to document his life as an aspiring gangsta-style rapper. Instagram photos, YouTube videos and Facebook posts show him pouring champagne over women’s thong-clad backsides, throwing money around and taking bubble baths in a heart-shaped red tub.

What happened to Laura Babcock? Mystery leaves family in ‘a horrible situation’
Wednesday, June 11, 2014

Police have not told Babcock’s family whether or not they have located her body, or any remains, leaving her family and friends clinging to the hope, however slim, that maybe, just maybe, she is still alive out there.
While detectives routinely keep information to themselves for investigative purposes, it is highly unusual for police to keep secret from family whether or not they’ve found a body. No one the Star contacted, including longtime homicide detectives and criminal lawyers, had ever heard of a similar scenario.

Dellen Millard case: Laura Babcock’s body not recovered in Ontario

The province's coroner's office says it has never opened an investigation into the Laura Babcock murder, something it would do if remains were found in Ontario.

Police have also refused to reveal their reasons for believing Babcock to be dead, adding to the mystery surrounding what led police to lay murder charges in her case.

The two men charged with first-degree murder in the death of Ancaster, Ont., resident Tim Bosma will head straight to trial, skipping the eight-week preliminary hearing, according to a report.

The attorney general's office has signed off on a direct indictment, the Toronto Star reports about the accused, Dellen Millard, 28, and Mark Smich, 26.

An eight-week preliminary hearing was scheduled to start on Sept. 8.

Assistant crown attorneys applied to the attorney general last month for a direct indictment, a rare move reserved for the most serious cases.

Tim Bosma murder case heading straight to trial
After suspects Dellen Millard and Mark Smich were charged in the murder of the Ancaster father, the Crown requested permission from the attorney general to go skip a preliminary trial.

Dellen Millard and Mark Smich will head straight to trial for the murder of Ancaster man Tim Bosma, the Star has learned, in one of the most sensational and anticipated homicide cases of the last decade.

The attorney general’s office has signed off on the rare request made by the Crown’s office last month for a direct indictment, which allows the case to skip a preliminary trial.

“A direct indictment in this case is most unfortunate,” said Millard’s Toronto lawyer, Ravin Pillay. “The preliminary inquiry, which an accused is entitled to in almost all serious cases, is an opportunity for a judge to screen charges to determine whether they should go to trial. A preliminary inquiry is also critical for the defence to discover the Crown’s case.”

The ministry’s decision to approve the direct indictment, a first since she became attorney general earlier this year, is a sign of a solid case gathered by prosecutors, Madeleine Meilleur told reporters after question period Wednesday.

“I’m not going to speak about the case, but when this procedure is supported, it’s because there is good evidence that the person being accused will become convicted,” she said.

The matter is scheduled in the Superior Court of Justice in Hamilton on Friday. A trial could be held as early as next year.

Likely a year before alleged Bosma killers go to trial: Clairmont

Unlike earlier video appearances, which were held in the Ontario Court of Justice, this time the lawyers were wearing robes and a judge presided, rather than a justice of the peace.

The Bosma family was there, as they always have been, seated in the first and second rows waiting for what amounts to brief glimpses of the men charged with abducting and murdering Tim.

On Sept. 9, lawyers for both accused will meet with the Crown attorneys and a judge (not the eventual trial judge) to have a judicial pretrial. This is their first chance to discuss the mechanics of the trial: How long will it take? How many witnesses? Will there be a change of venue application? What will be the legal challenges that will have to be dealt with? Is disclosure complete?

It could take months – or longer – to work through those details.

Tim Bosma slaying: Christina Noudga smiles as she's released on $100K bail
Aug 08, 2014 9:31 AM ET

Christina Noudga, who is charged with being an accessory after the fact in the 2013 slaying of Tim Bosma, smiled as she left a Hamilton courtroom Friday, after being released on $100,000 bail.

The 22-year-old woman from Etobicoke, Ont., will be required to wear an ankle bracelet that will track her movements, and she will be under house arrest. Noudga will be allowed outside her home to go to work or to attend school. Her parents have agreed to be responsible for the $100,000 bail amount if she defaults.

VIDEO: Girlfriend in Bosma murder case gets bail

“For now, there’s a return to normalcy, not that there’s a lot of normalcy in a situation like this. She’s anxious to pursue and complete her university education and move on as best she can.”

The details of the bail hearing cannot be reported because of a standard bail hearing publication ban. Nor can Lofchik’s reasons for his decision be reported.

The names of her parents can’t be published either after the judge approved a second ban sought by Noudga’s lawyer, who said her parents were concerned publicizing their identities could affect their business.

Noudga is accused of aiding her boyfriend, Dellen Millard, 28, who is charged alongside his friend Mark Smich, 26, with the first-degree murder of Bosma.

Bosma Trial Expected fall, 2015

The accused killers of Tim Bosma are expected to go on trial in the autumn of 2015 with the proceedings lasting up to five months.

The logistics of the high-profile case were discussed last week when lawyers for Dellen Millard and Mark Smich met with the assistant Crown attorneys and Justice James Turnbull for a closed-door judicial pretrial meeting.

Pretrial motions are expected to take place in the spring of next year and will likely last three to four months, says Deepak Paradkar, the Toronto criminal lawyer who has been acting as counsel for Millard.

Paradkar was involved in the Sept. 9 meeting even though he does not officially represent Millard right now.

Co-accused in Bosma murder case faces new charge

Mark Smich was charged Monday by Det. Mark Carbone of the Toronto police homicide unit. Documents filed with the courthouse in Etobicoke say the alleged breach of recognizance happened between April 10 and July 31 of last year while Smich was in custody at the Toronto West Detention Centre.

There is a court order banning the publication of the girlfriend's name.

Bosma trial delayed to early 2016
The trial for Tim Bosma’s accused killers has been delayed until next year. It was originally scheduled to begin Sept. 28 but a new start date was set Monday during an extraordinary and unexplained closed-door proceeding.
Wed Feb 25 2015

It was originally scheduled to begin Sept. 28 but a new start date was set Monday during an extraordinary and unexplained closed-door proceeding. The public — including Bosma’s father, Hank Bosma, and members of the media — was ordered out of the courtroom by Justice Stephen Glithero for the three-hour hearing.
The judge would only say that something “important” and “controversial” was being discussed.

The original trial date was “vacated” and a new date set for Jan. 11, 2016. The Spec has previously reported the trial is expected last up to five months.

Letters from Bosma accused Dellen Millard imply he believes he will return to world of fast cars and exotic adventure
by Ann Brocklehurst for the National Post

When Dellen Millard, the wealthy young Toronto aviation heir, was first sent to Hamilton’s notorious Barton Street jail, he was optimistic a jury would find him not guilty of the 2013 murder of Tim Bosma and that he would soon return to his life of fast cars and exotic adventure.

New judge for Bosma case

A new judge will preside over the Tim Bosma first-degree-murder trial when it resumes Monday.

The Spectator has learned Justice Andrew Goodman will replace Justice Stephen Glithero, who became ill earlier this week.

It is unclear whether the replacement is temporary or if Goodman will be the judge for the trial, which is scheduled for January. If Goodman is the permanent judge, he will have the option of continuing on with the pretrial motions where Glithero left off, or starting over again.

Only two days of pretrial motions have been heard.
