Gonzalez Jr. to learn his fate in Billings killings
Kris Wernowsky • kwernowsky@pnj.com • February 14, 2011
*snip* Last week, his mother, Terry Poff, circulated a letter penned by her son to various media outlets. In the letter, Gonzalez Jr. chided Escambia County Sheriff David Morgan, State Attorney Bill Eddins and the media for what he considers an unfair trial.
The letter echoes remarks he made at a previous sentencing hearing that Pamela Long Wiggins, charged as an accessory after the fact, and her husband, Hugh Wiggins, who faces weapons charges in Mississippi, were the true masterminds behind the botched heist.

Stallworth trial 3/2
*snip* Freddy Thornton was 19 at the time of the murders… and says he recruited his sister's baby's father, Rakeem Florence, who was16 years old…

Rakeem Florence/Billings Murder Suspect: "To make some money, I just had a baby, I didn't have no job and I needed to make some money."

Initially they told investigators they were at the Billings home, but just to buy weed… when that story fell through, they changed it… now testifying that they were in on planning the robbery and so was Donnie Stallworth.

Stallworth Trial UPDATE
*snip* One Juror told us the defense's questioning of Stallworth's co-defendants split the jury. Stallworth Juror: "Oh, I felt he was guilty." Stallworth Juror: "The real debate on everything was they didn't believe the testimony of Thornton and Florence."

Donnie Ray Stallworth Sr/Stallworth Jr's Father: "How can the Judge sit up here and make a ruling and he sleep all day? SLEEP! Okay? And I'm not the only one that saw this. You got me? How can he do that? You know? We need another Judge."

The second trial begins today in Escambia County for the Brewton man charged in the death of Byrd and Melanie Billings.

Donnie Stallworth is facing two counts of first degree murder in connection with the shooting deaths of the Beulah couple last July — one of seven people charged in the double murder. The former Air Force staff sergeant went on trail last month, but a judge declared a mistrial after a jury could not decide his fate during nine hours of deliberations.
