In an interview earlier this year, he said Knox had spent the night with him but went back to her place to shower, he said. When she returned, she was "very agitated," he said.

She told him it looked like someone had broken in and that there was blood in the bathroom, Sollecito said.

But rather than call the police, she showered and returned to his place.

He said:" Certainly I asked her questions. 'Why did you take a shower? Why did she spend so much time there? ' "

He didn't get any real answers from her, he said.

Ms Bongiorno added that the pair’s conviction rested heavily on a note written by Knox when she was in jail – which she later retracted -- in which she admitted being present at the house she shared with Kercher when the latter was fatally stabbed.

Sollecito said the note was the product of “fantasy and hallucinations,” but added, “If it’s true, I will ask (the judge) what have I got to do with it?”

The new legal strategy does not modify his firm belief in Ms. Knox’s innocence, he said, and he dismissed recent newspaper reports suggesting “that I’ve changed my version or that I’ve dumped Amanda.”

“I’m just asking what I have to do with anything,” he said. “If you accept this version where I am not responsible, then you have to explain what my position is.”

Meredith Kercher murder trial will reach Italy's highest court in March... a year after Amanda Knox and Raffaele Sollecito were found guilty of killing her

The case will be heard by the Court of Cassation in Rome on March 25th, the highest appeals court in Italy.
A court of cassation does not re-examine the facts of the case, but will only rule on the interpretation of the law in the guilty verdict by the Florence court.
