In January, Ty Garbin pleaded guilty to scouting the governor’s vacation home and attending militia training exercises. As a part of the plea deal, he has also agreed to fully cooperate with the FBI including testifying against others.

Garbin is scheduled to be sentenced on August 25 in the US District Court-Western District of Michigan in Grand Rapids. His conspiracy charges carry a maximum of life in prison.

Training video in alleged kidnapping plot of Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer released

Front and center in the alleged plot to kidnap Gov. Whitmer at gunpoint was a man named Barry Croft, who is seen carrying one flag of the Boogaloo Bois, a far-right anti-government movement. Croft is in photos and on video obtained by the I-Team that prosecutors say shows him and other in live assault weapons training-preparing for a violent assault on the Michigan governor's summer home.

Prosecutors say the video was taken during a militia live-fire exercise in southern Wisconsin. According to the case's latest court filing, federal agents had enlisted twelve confidential informants to provide information about Barry Croft and other members of the Wolverine Watchmen, a militia group that allegedly had a plan in place last year to kidnap and potentially kill the Michigan governor.

Michigan militia men accused of trying to kidnap Governor Whitmer claim the FBI set them up

On June 15, Congressman Matt Gaetz wrote a letter to FBI Director Christopher Wray, asking three questions regarding the 'extent ... [to which] the three primary militia groups ... [were] infiltrated by agencies of the federal government.'

He wanted to know 'how many federal undercover agents or confidential informants were present at the Capitol or in the Capitol during the "siege",' and 'how many [of the unindicted Jan. 6 co-conspirators] worked as a confidential informant or as an undercover operative for the federal government.'

He has asked for a response by August 1.

Tucker Carlson has also asked whether the FBI had incited the January 6 insurrectionists.

He said that the FBI's strategy of 'encouraging people and assisting people to participate and plot, largely scripted by the FBI itself,' also appeared in an Islamic terror attack in Garland, Texas, where 'it turns out that an FBI employee played an active role in that shooting.'

The Fox News host then played a clip from CNN where an official told Anderson Cooper that an undercover FBI agent 'had been texting with [suspect Elton] Simpson less than three weeks before the attack ... which, to me, was an encouragement to Simpson.'

Below you can read excerpts from Whitmer’s impact statement, which was submitted on June 21:

“The last 18 months have taken a toll on me. But this is bigger than me. It has taken a toll on my family, the community, the state, the nation, and democracy itself. No one has been untouched by the crisis that has plagued us.”

“We are a nation of laws. Laws that are intended to protect us, our families, communities, states, and our nation. It is an imperfect system. It requires participation, responsibility, respect for each other, and compromise. Violence and threats have no place in our politics. ...”

“The plots and threats against me, no matter how disturbing, could not deter me from doing everything I could to save as many lives as possible by listening to medical and health experts. To me it is very simple: this had to be the priority.”

“The details of the plot against me are terrifying enough that if I could have, I would have shielded my family and friends from them. ... My gratitude for the brave law enforcement officers of the Michigan State Police and the FBI is enormous. But even now we have not reached the far shore. Threats continue. I have looked out my windows and seen large groups of heavily armed people within thirty yards of my home. I have seen myself hung in effigy. Days ago at a demonstration there was a sign that called for “burning the witch.” For me, things will never be the same.”

“I have always enjoyed being out in the community, meeting people, learning about them, hearing what they have to say and trying to see the world from their perspective. That is what made me want this job in the first place and I will continue to do that because it is what the job requires. Disagreement and even disrespect come with the territory but now there is an element of danger that wasn’t there before.”

“The damage this will do to us is hard to predict, but I am certain that there must be consequences for those who try to take us down this dark path. The rise in violent extremism in America is one of the gravest threats we face. ... The violent insurrection we witnessed on January 6 is not an anomaly, it is our future if we do not work to address how we got here. Kidnapping plots and death threats endanger not just individuals but democracy itself. We must hold those who resort to threats and violence accountable. We can no longer ignore the hate and bloodshed within our borders.”

“We must find a way to come together again. This requires forgiveness of those who have become victims themselves of misplaced anger, hate, disinformation, and a misunderstanding of our democracy. That does not mean that there are no consequences for those who have committed crimes. Yet to reunite as Americans, we must find a way to bring those who have lost their way back from the brink, to remind those for whom violence represents an acceptable strategy that it is a path that will ultimately, and possibly irrevocably, divorce us from the founding principles of our nation. Their imagined defense of liberty is what most endangers liberty itself. Lies, radicalization and violent extremism are an existential threat to what we value. Now, more than ever, it threatens our future and the future we envisioned for our children. ...”

“We are a nation of laws, but for laws to be effective they must be enforced. There is room for grace and rehabilitation for those who recognize the danger that has been unleashed and assist in unearthing the hate that has taken root in our society. This will help reestablish the ideals and aspirations that made our nation a beacon of possibility and opportunity to the rest of the world. I am not the only one who has been impacted by this kidnapping plot. It is like throwing a pebble into a pond. The ripples expand to include my family and loved ones, the state I love, the citizens I serve, the country I have always believed in and the idea of democracy itself. We have all been impacted by this. To recover, we must travel a new path. The road ahead is full of obstacles and challenges, but it is lit by justice, truth, and the idea that there is little we cannot accomplish together. We are changed but we are not broken.”

“I would like to acknowledge this defendant for taking responsibility, accepting the consequences of his actions and assisting in bringing others to justice.”

A Right-Wing Troll Appears To Have Tweeted About An FBI Investigation Into The Michigan Kidnapping Plot Before It Went Public

why-did-a-right-wing-troll-appear-to-tweet-about--2-955-1630019623-16_dblbig.jpg

Members of the armed extremist group Wolverine Watchmen inside the Michigan Capitol in April 2020. Maybe this guy is the troll, doesn't say.

On the afternoon of Oct. 7, 2020, a Twitter account known for right-wing trolling issued an enigmatic warning: “Don’t worry Michigan I told ya A LOT more coming soon.”

The account, @ravagiing, provided no further details, but just hours later, the FBI executed coordinated raids throughout Michigan, arresting nearly a dozen people it said were involved in a plot to kidnap the state’s governor, Gretchen Whitmer.

The next day, after the alleged plot had made international headlines, the account tweeted again: “I told ya ahead of time, Michigan.” And, indeed, @ravagiing — whose Twitter bio describes the individual or individuals as CEO of a cyber intelligence firm called Exeintel — had been dropping hints for months. “Soon….MICHIGAN Soon,” the account tweeted on Sept. 24.

The tweets could be dismissed as little more than an odd coincidence. But government records show that Exeintel is owned by Jayson Chambers — one of the lead FBI agents on the Michigan case.

Social media of suspects in @gretchenwhitmer plot show adoration of @realDonaldTrump, conspiracy theories, etc. typical of militia members. In a vid, Brandon Caserta rapidly loads rifle in a “🤬🤬🤬🤬 THE GOVERNMENT” shirt. Prominent cell member Barry Croft a devoted Trump supporter.

@Seattle1 - can't recall - but can you look up the Federal cases for Adam Fox, Kaleb Franks, Brandon Caserta, & Daniel Harris? I have the trial starting on 10/12/21 - but thought "maybe" there might be a hearing before than? Last was a status hearing on 2/17 which was cancelled.

Then there is also Barry Croft out of Wisconsin-last hearing motions on 6/16/21 ?

TIA if you can find anything! :)

and then... :)

I have out of Antrim County - Eric Molitor, William & Michael Null, Shawn Fix & Brian Higgins (not on 4/14, but had bond hearing on 11/19/20). Last hearing was an arraignment hearing on 4/14/21 which was also cancelled.

Thanks!

Dells man implicated in plot to kidnap Michigan governor released on bond

Brian Higgins, 52, was charged with providing material support to a terrorist act in October. Higgins allegedly provided night-vision goggles and making use of a dash cam to spy on Whitmer's second home.

Higgins was initially imprisoned in Columbia County, but his case has since been extradited to Michigan despite an appeal. As conditions of his release, Higgins has to wear a GPS tracking device and surrender his passport to authorities.
