Egypt Covington murder: Trials set for 2 suspects as 5-year anniversary nears

Next week marks the five-year anniversary of Egypt Covington's murder. While the case has dragged on, trials have been set for two of the three men charged.

VAN BUREN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (FOX 2) - Nearly five years after Egypt Covington's murder, trials are set.

June 22 marks the anniversary of 27-year-old Covington's murder in her Van Buren Township home. The singer was home watching a movie when, according to court testimony, two men broke into her duplex, shot her to death, and wrapped her up with Christmas lights.

Those men, Timothy Eugene Moore, and Shandon Ray Groom, are headed to trial later this year. A third man, Shane Lamar Evans, has a competency hearing this summer.

The Van Buren Township 27-year-old woman was found dead at 7:15 p.m. inside her home in the 45000 block of Hull Road. Covington’s boyfriend at the time was the person who found her.

As Wednesday marks the fifth year anniversary of Covington’s murder, the family expresses their emotions. Her siblings have matching tattoos that are a shape of the country Egypt with the words “can’t stop, won’t stop.”...
