Judge Evans' questioning of Joe during the last hearing exposed the affidavit to be completely false - garbage, in Gentz's own words.

I doubt Bob's going to get a new trial, but we'll know for sure tomorrow. I think Judge Vonda had her mind made up a while ago but has, once again, given Bashara's attorney a lot of latitude on behalf of his unsavory client. :moo:

I think the problem is, no matter what Gentz says, each side will be able to argue that he said something different previously. But I guess once you start a hearing, you have to finish it.

Bashara handyman returns to witness stand Tuesday

Handyman Joseph Gentz is expected to return to the witness stand Tuesday to discuss how he strangled Jane Bashara at the behest of her Grosse Pointe Park businessman husband.

Gentz testified last month during the continuation of a hearing to determine whether Bob Bashara will get a new trial after his first-degree murder conviction last year.

Gentz was expected to testify Bashara had nothing to do with his wife’s Jan. 24, 2012, death, after the handyman filed an affidavit stating he committed the killing on his own — but when he took the stand, Gentz surprised court-watchers when he insisted: “Bob was there.” ...

DETROIT - A handyman imprisoned for the slaying of a Grosse Pointe Park woman is expected to continue testifying Tuesday in a hearing to determine if Bob Bashara will get a new trial.

Bashara, 57, is trying to have his first-degree murder conviction and life sentence in his wife's death thrown out, saying his rights were violated by an ineffective defense...

In a way, my heart goes out to Joe Gentz. His IQ is very low, based on personal experience with people with mental challenges. It's clear to me that people, especially Bob Bashara, used his disability to get him into trouble. He doesn't seem to understand that what he asks for is different from what he was offered, time-wise.

I'm sure his own attorney explained the deal to him, but he didn't get it.

His head is all muddled up.
