MI - Julia Niswender, 23, Ypsilanti, Dec 2012 **MEDIA THREAD**NO DISCUSSION

http://monroenews.com/news/2015/mar/04/jennifer-niswender-backing-stepfather/?templates=tablet&top-stories=

This is for the article. I had heard this yesterday, but could not confirm it was the same person. I will see if I can still find the original articles about the lockdown situation.

At that time, when police came to serve the search warrant last week, Mr. Turnquist fled to the martial arts studio where he had taught classes next to Food Town on N. Telegraph Rd. The Michigan State Police, believing he might be armed and suicidal, swarmed the area, causing a brief lockdown at a nearby school. Mr. Turnquist was taken into custody without further incident.

...According to Julia's twin sister, Jennifer, questioning him is a waste of time. She says she knows for a fact he had nothing to do with it.

"At the time of her death, we were all at home sleeping," she said.

FOX 2 stopped by the Turnquist's home. There was no answer at the door.

We also had no luck finding anyone at the home where Turnquist told the court he now stays with friends. Family members of the EMU student tell police they had their suspicions of Turnquist as well. That's just another reason police say he's now a person of interest for homicide.

Jennifer remains adamant that Turnquist isn't responsible.

Julia Niswender's stepdad was home when police believe she was killed, lawyer says
By Darcie Moran of MLive, Mar 5, '15 6:12 pm mentions that Ypsilanti police Lt. Deric Gress

found the stepdad "less forthcoming" and "He said the whole family has been cooperative, to a point."

Thanks for the link MIMOMMY

The lawyer said "it doesn’t make sense since he gave it to investigators voluntarily." about the computer here

What makes sense to me from the way he went to his place of business is that he may have had a place to hide other things there?

Police say James Turnquist is ‘person of interest' in Julia Niswender’s death

For anyone not local who wants to watch news at 4:00, here's the live stream link for WDIV, Channel 4, Detroit: http://www.clickondetroit.com/livestream/wdiv-news-livestream/22218202

The early news is usually breaking news, headlines, weather, etc., so if there's a major development in the Niswender situation, it might not be on until 5:00 or later newscasts. Of course, there are other TV stations in metro-Detroit, but Channel 4 is my go-to for local news.

Turnquist's attorney, Paul Stablein, requested the bond reduction after witnesses refuted allegations of threatening behavior by Turnquist.

"We have not been successful in verifying or rebuking that," Stablein said. "But a nurse came forward and said she disputed the fact that he was threatening anyone there."

3 moms forge bond after losing daughters

Francis X. Donnelly, The Detroit News 12:01 a.m. EDT March 24, 2015

Monroe – When the death of a daughter split her family, Kim Turnquist found solace in two outsiders who shared a similar nightmare.

Debi Kamin and Leannda Bruck also lost daughters. One disappeared and one was shot.

"We're all moms," said Kamin of Gibraltar. "We lost daughters and we lost part of us. That's a tight bond."

In a sad coincidence within the past two years, tragedy struck three young women living 15 miles apart in rural patches of Downriver and Monroe County. No arrests have been made in the cases...
