Tony Briscoe/The Detroit News

Detroit — Police partnered with state and federal authorities Tuesday in the search for two missing children after their mother’s body was found Monday in a vacant house on the city's west side.

More than three weeks after their disappearance, Detroit police began working with Michigan State Police and the FBI in hopes of finding 6-year-old Kaylah Hunter and her 6-month-old brother, Kristian Justice.

“We are doing everything we can to find the children,” Detroit Police Chief James Craig said.

Police are also investigating the homicide of the children’s mother, Alicia Fox, 27, whose body was found by relatives about 9 p.m. while they were handing out fliers and searching in the 6800 block of Penrod Street...

Husband questioned in Georgia after woman's decomposed body found in Detroit; kids still missing

Tony Briscoe and George Hunter/The Detroit News

Detroit — Federal authorities in Georgia interviewed the husband of a woman found dead this week on Detroit's west side as police continue to search for her two children who remain missing, according to a Detroit Police Department spokesman.

FBI officials met with Erin Justice in Atlanta, Ga., after his 27-year-old wife Alicia Fox’s body was discovered in a vacant house on Monday and more than three weeks since his son, Kristian Justice, 6 months, and his step-daughter, Kaylah Hunter, 6, were seen last, Officer Adam Madera said.

“We reached out to the FBI in Georgia and he voluntarily came in to make a statement,” said Madera. “He is being cooperative.”

Fox was last seen by her mother on May 24 at her house in the 18400 block of Ardmore. She recently moved out of the house with her children, where she stayed with her husband until “very recently,” according to police...

FBI Joins Search For Detroit Kids Whose Mother Was Found Dead In Abandoned Home

June 10, 2014 7:31 PM

DETROIT (WWJ) – The FBI has joined the search for two Detroit children after their mother was found dead Monday in a vacant home in the city.

Police have had contact with both of the children’s fathers — Kevin Hunter and 28-year-old Erin Justice — and Detroit Police Chief James Craig said both men are cooperating with investigators.

Detroit police have confirmed that Justice was questioned by the FBI in Atlanta, Georgia Tuesday night and released.

Craig said the last one to hear from 26-year-old Alicia Fox was Hunter, who is her daughter’s father.

“His last communication was with Miss Fox on the third of June, and that was via text at around 5 p.m.,” Craig said, updating reporters on the case on Tuesday...

There's so much here that is not making sense to me.

http://www.detroitnews.com/article/20140611/METRO01/306110058#ixzz34L6QABSl

Her last known form of communication was a text to Kaylah’s father, Kevin Hunter, on June 3 at about 5 p.m. However, the text didn’t set off red flags...

The body was intact, according to the autopsy. “It is in a state of severe decomposition,” said Mary Mazur, spokeswoman for the Medical Examiner’s Office.

Alicia was found on Monday; does a body decompose that much in six days? She was indoors, not out in the elements. ME says the body was intact, but a relative says he saw lower legs separated from her body. Temperatures were in the 70s and low 80s during that week, in the 60s at night, and I read somewhere that her body was found in the basement of the house, so it would be even cooler down there. If it was wet down there, though...

Was it even Alicia who sent that text? Where is her phone?

She recently moved out of the house with her children, where she stayed with her husband until “very recently,” according to police.

So she left him? Where did she move to? And then she and the kids vanished. And the husband packed up in a U-Haul and took off to Atlanta.

WDIV news at noon: The husband reportedly booked a hotel room for his wife and children. Update should be posted sometime this afternoon.

ETA: The hotel room is mentioned in the video from noon news but isn't in the current article.

An employee at the U-Haul Moving and Storage at Livernois near Pembroke confirmed that a U-Haul truck had been rented to the baby’s father. Police officers were at the rental store Tuesday morning and one told a reporter that he had no comment, calling it an “active investigation”...

Doughty said that when they found Fox’s body, it appeared to be wrapped in material that looked like it was used for moving furniture.

This article also includes a very disturbing story about a physical assault by Alicia against another woman in 2012. It has nothing to do with the kids, though. Where are the kids?

Wow... I wonder what happened? I hope these kids are found safe.

I don't know if I can post this, but some bodies have supposedly been located per a relative of mine who lives in this area. This is really heartbreaking.

:welcome: to Websleuths! We can't discuss anything that hasn't been released to the media yet, but I heard speculation earlier today about remains having been found in the general vicinity of where the mother was located. I grew up in Detroit and am familiar with the area. Sorry to say that I fear the worst for the two missing children. :(

I'm from the Detroit area. I just learned how to get on Broadcastify's live feeds for the Detroit Police Fire and rescue. Haven't heard anything promising yet.

The search for two missing children is now focusing on a section of Ardmore on Detroit's west side. That's where officers from the Detroit Police Department, Michigan State Police and the FBI are preparing to dig inside a home.

The search is focused on the home of the children's mother, Alicia Fox...

There are also vacant homes in the area police are now concentrating on. Officers have taken shovels into the backyards of two of those vacant homes.

A section of the street on Ardmore, where Alicia Fox and her family lived, was blocked off with yellow police tape tonight. Investigators searched the backyard after finding loose dirt, but they came up empty this evening. “We’re purely here for evidence and to try to be as thorough as possible,” said Detroit Police Capt. Eric Decker.

For the second time in two days, police plan to execute a search warrant at the home Fox shared with Erin Justice and her two children. Authorities plan to go back through the home to make sure they “haven’t missed anything,” Decker said.

He said officials are looking for “any evidence of a homicide.”

The father of one of two missing children, whose mother was found fatally shot in Detroit earlier this week, has been taken into custody in Georgia, a person familiar with the investigation told the Free Press.

Wednesday night, while executing a second search warrant in as many days on the home Alicia Fox once shared with her family, authorities found a bullet lodged in a wall, which had been freshly patched and painted, the source said.

Authorities also determined that blood was spattered on the ceiling of an upstairs bedroom at the home on Ardmore, where Fox lived with her two children and Erin Justice, the father of her 8-month old. The source said Justice was taken into custody.

According to The Detroit News, the father of one of two missing Detroit children was arrested in Atlanta on Wednesday in the slaying of the children’s mother, Alicia Fox, a police source familiar with the investigation told The News.

A second man police believe was an accessory to her death is also in custody. He was arrested in Detroit, the source said.

A warrant was signed Wednesday accusing Erin Justice — father of one of the missing children, Kristian Justice — of killing Fox and leaving her in an abandoned house on the city’s west side, the source told the Detroit News.
