Maybe she never made it to Norton Shores. Flint serial killer Jeffrey Gorton would have been 25 at that time, and he had already killed at least once: he murdered Margarette Eby in 1986 when he was 24. Police have no idea how many unknown victims he might have.

Stacy Lyn Chahorski, 19

Although her identity is now known, her killer has yet to be identified and brought to justice.
It doesn't sound like she was found right away, so there might not be any DNA from the perp. Still, maybe someone can connect the dots.

n 2015, the case was reassigned again, and a GBI forensic artist did new clay renderings and composites of the victim for an age progression.

GBI agents said they contacted the FBI about possibly using a new type of genealogy investigation that's helped solve other cold cases, particularly homicide investigations.

The new DNA technology helped identify the victim as Stacey Lyn Chahorski.

A lab company known as Othram helped generate the lead.

"This new kind of DNA technology that we offered at Othram allows investigators to get more information to link to distant relatives to just anything that could anchor this person within a family structure," said Othram CEO David Mittelman.
Modern technology helps solve cold case collecting dust for over 3 decades

Consider as a possible suspect in Stacey's murder: Serial Killer Dennis Bowman.

Bowman lived near Holland, Michigan which is only about 27 miles south of Norton Shores.

He was recently convicted of the 1980 murder of Kathleen O'Brien Doyle, age 25, in Virginia Beach, VA and also the 1989 murder of his stepdaughter, Aundria Bowman, age 16, in Michigan.

Bowman was a Naval Reservist who travelled across the country periodically for Reserve Drill and Active Duty training.

DB seems like a long shot. Isn't it more likely that Stacey never made it back to Michigan? I doubt that DB would've killed her and then transported her body all the way to Georgia. I think that we should be focusing on serial killers active in Georgia or the surrounding states.

Dennis Bowman is now known to have been active as a serial killer between 1980 and 1989 (murders for which he was convicted). He killed victims in Michigan and Virginia. So he did travel, and young women were his targets of choice.

The facts that he lived within a half hour drive of Stacy, and chose victims that fit her general profile, does not prove that he killed her, but it does beg the question, and deserves a look.

I would be more likely to focus on DB as a suspect if we knew that Stacy had made it back to Michigan. As it stands, it seems more likely that she was killed closer to where she was found.

A news conference is scheduled at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday for a "major update" in the case, according to bureau.

Using a new type of genealogy investigation after contacting the FBI, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation identified the woman as Stacey Lyn Chahorski on March 24, 2022.

Her body was found five miles from the Alabama Stateline in Dade County, Georgia on Dec. 16, 1988, about a month before she was reported missing in January 1989, according to the Georgia Bureau.

DNA analysis and clay renderings that depict age progression assisted in her identification, according to the Georgia Bureau.

Chahorski was buried in a Dade County cemetery.
