Winter storm warning issued for SE Michigan overnight (detroitnews.com)

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for southeast Michigan and the rest of the state's lower half is under a winter weather advisory into Tuesday, with up to 12 inches of snow expected to cause difficult driving conditions.

A snowier-than-normal February in Michigan continues. A light dusting in the southern portion of the state that started early Monday will intensify through noon Tuesday, said National Weather Service meteorologist Cory Behnke.

The winter storm warning for the counties of St. Clair, Oakland, Macomb, Washtenaw, Wayne, Lenawee and Monroe will be in effect from 6 p.m. Monday through noon Tuesday...

As Michiganians recover from a weekend of storms, tornadoes and flooding amid the potential for more rain each day this week, forecasters warn Tuesday is most likely to deliver another round of severe weather.

"Shower/thunderstorm coverage will be more substantial on Tuesday ...," the National Weather Service says. "With a very warm and moist air mass still in place, expect the flooding potential to increase as well as more locations receive heavy rainfall. Localized rainfall amounts could certainly reach 1 to 2 inches ... . Given recent heavy rainfall, the flooding potential will be monitored closely over the next several days."...

Macomb, Oakland, Wayne and Monroe counties were under severe thunderstorm warnings this morning as a widespread area of heavy rains and storms moved through southeast Michigan. Additionally, the National Weather Service had issued a flash flood warning for northern Wayne County and southern Macomb and Oakland counties until mid-morning. Flooded areas near Lansing include southeast Clinton County, northeast Eaton and northwest Ingham County...

The National Weather Service is forecasting 1-3 inches across central lower Michigan, 3-6 inches in the Interstate 96 corridor and 5-7 inches along Interstate 94 in west Michigan. Michigan statewide tornado drill 2022: Communities cancel due to weather (detroitnews.com)

The National Weather Service's test of its hazards radio system warning that was scheduled for 1 p.m. Wednesday has been canceled, officials said.

They said the test is being postponed due to the potential for some severe weather in southern lower Michigan and hazardous winter weather in the Upper Peninsula and northern lower Michigan.

Officials said the test, which is part of a statewide simulated Tornado Drill, would be conducted either Thursday or next week...

INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana Department of Homeland Security (IDHS) says homeowners who build a FEMA-approved tornado safe room or shelter can apply to be reimbursed for up to 75% of their expenses.

"Indiana averages 22 tornadoes a year," said Mary Moran, director of IDHS Emergency Management and Preparedness. "Since 1950, we've had something like 226 deaths and we've been kind of late to the game when it comes to pushing shelters."
