“There are some areas of concern here that we are searching today,” Chief David Singleton of Minnesota Community Policing said. “I don’t know the family or anyone involved, but I hope someone would be there for me and my family.” Volunteer searcher Greg Giles said.

The Minnesota Community Policing Services Foundation has extended its search for missing Vadnais Heights woman Michele Newell to North Dakota after conducting multiple searches in the St. Paul area.

Nothing conclusive has been found.

The North Dakota search and recovery operation led by the foundation's special investigations committee began Nov. 11.

“This search and recovery operation will include assistance with our counterpart from Minnesota Canine Search and Rescue,” the foundation stated. K-9s will be used in areas where investigations indicate there is a high probability Newell's body could be found.

Discovery of Human Remains Leads to Charges

Timothy James Barr was charged in Cass County, North Dakota court with manslaughter and failing to report an incident involving death or injury in the death of Michelle Newell of Vadnais Heights. Newell, a 48-year-old mother of three, was reported missing by her family in late August.

The break in the case came on Dec. 1, when an associate of Barr's contacted authorities and told them that he wanted to come in and give a full statement about the disappearance of Michelle Newell. Barr came in to the Ramsey County Sheriff's Office the next day and gave investigators a map of where they could find Newell's body. That map was shared with authorities in North Dakota and human remains, in the form of a forearm bone, small bones and teeth, were located on Dec. 2 in a remote field.

Remains have just now been positively ID'd:
Authorities say human remains found in Cass County earlier this month have been positively identified as a woman who went missing in Vadnais Heights in September.

The body was identified as Newell on Wednesday by the UND Forensic Pathologist, the Cass County Sheriff's Office confirmed.
The remains of 45-year-old Michelle Newell were found December 2nd.

So sad :( I wonder what made him reveal where the body was - did his conscience catch up with him, or was he offered a plea-deal for manslaughter instead of murder for leading KL to the body? Did he just hide her body after she accidentally overdosed, or did he murder her?

He is claiming it's an accident:
The man accused of killing her, Timothy Barr, 51, Lakeville, Minn., faces a charge of manslaughter and duty in an accident involving death or injury, according to the Sheriff's Department. Barr admitted to an informant that he "accidentally drove over Newell as she was hiding under his vehicle". He says he then accidently drove over her and killed her. Barr had previously told authorities that he left Newell's body covered in hay in a farm building in South Dakota.

I don't believe that, for some reason. Why would she be hiding under his car?

JMO.... She was hiding because he was trying to kill her?????

Yeah, that's a possibility! He also hid her body after the so called "accident".

Yeah... I'm not buying this story. Although if he was off his face was on meth I suppose he may have genuinely killed her by accident somehow and then thought it seemed like a good idea to hide her body. But how convenient that he has only come clean now that her remains are scattered and a cause of death probably won't be able to be determined :(

Lakeville man pleads guilty in N.D. death of formerly missing Vadnais Heights woman

A Lakeville man was sentenced to seven years in prison after pleading guilty Thursday in Cass County District Court to a charge of leaving the scene of an accident that caused the death of a woman from Vadnais Heights.

A manslaughter charge that had been pending against the man, Timothy Barr, was dismissed.

According to court records, the body of Michelle Newell, 45, was found in rural Cass County in early December by investigators. The 51-year-old Barr had directed investigators to the area where the remains were found. Barr was charged with backing his car over Newell after she hid beneath the vehicle, court records stated.

Barr read a letter in court Thursday, calling the incident that happened about a year ago a “terrible accident” that has been plaguing his mind every night since.

Describing Newell as the most kind and generous woman he had ever met, Barr said he has suffered deep mental anguish and that he “cannot keep reliving the events that haunt me.”
