susanstar; if I read the news article correctly, I believe her mother was the last person to see her. if I understood, the young girl had some behavioral issues and that a therpasist had made a statement to the mother that if she got disruptive again over any issues with the mom, for her to drop her off a ways from the house and make her walk home, this was some sort of conditioning therapy in an effort to make her somewhat more behaved when ask to do something. I have mixed issues about the whole case, or for the part of it I have read and come to understand. not to stone anyone close to her, but in view of mothers that harm their children I always look back on the susan smith case. to refresh your memory, susan smith was the young mother that left her two small children in car seats and allowed the car to roll down a boat ramp and into the lake. their bodies were found a short time later when she was discovered to be the one that harmed them. I wonder myself if the police or fbi has questioned the mother in depth? I believe that anytime someone is reported missing it becomes federal jurisdiction, but local authorities useally request their help if needed. the road that this occured on was a long gravel or country rd off of the main hwy. her mom indicated that she drove her a short distants away at first, let her out and then drove home. she said a very short time later her daughter came in the door, and made a comment of how short of a walk it was. her mom hadn't taken her the one mile from home like the doctor had said. so she took her back down the road and let her out, one mile from home and let her out again. when she left she drove only a short distants and looked into the rear view mirror and noticed a vehicle pass by on the main rd behind her, she turned back around and went up to her child and told her not to get in a car with anyone and then proceeded back home. she said that after 6 or 630 she became concerned that she had not come back home, she went out looking for her, and after not be able to find her, came back home and notified the authorities. I also kinda have my mind set on the doc that made that type of decision as for a treatment. in this day and time, letting your child walk alone in remote places is certainly taking a great risk to their saftey, maybe the police should look into him as a person of interest, after all he would know where they live and making a therputical decision like he did, he knew that eventually the mother would drop her off a ways from the house so he could pull up and pick her up. remember, not all sexual preditors look like the man that killed jessica lundsford, a bunch of them do look the part, but there are many amoung us that look like very trusting individuals.

$5,000 reward is set up for missing teen

A $5,000 reward for information leading to the safe return of a Lincoln County teen is being offered by a foundation established in memory of three slain women.

The reward fund for Bianca Piper, 13, was announced by the girl's mother, Shannon Tanner, at a news conference Wednesday at the Lincoln County Sheriff's Department.

The foundation funding the reward was formed in memory of Carole and Juli Sund and Silvina Pelossa, who were missing and later found murdered near Yosemite National Park in February 1999.

Bianca disappeared March 10, after her mother drove her about a mile from their home in Foley and dropped her off, with the hope that walking back to their residence would give Bianca a chance to calm down.

The girl suffers from attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and bipolar disorder, and takes several medications to help control mood swings and aggressive tendencies. Tanner said mental health counselors had recommended the walks.

Anyone with information about Bianca is asked to call the sheriff's department at 636-528-8546.

My husband and I drove this road and it's very remote and secluded. I've also read a rumor that Bianca was new to this area and her mother said she could disoriented very easily (so she drops her off a mile from home in 20 degree weather?). I was under the impression she was from the area, so I'm not sure about that piece of info. Although I will say that her mother has been conspicuously absent from the search efforts which are still going on. It's possible LE has only said the mother and boyfriend were cleared of wrongdoing to give them a false sense of security so they will let something slip. Bianca's mother is the last person to have seen her and no one else saw her walking on that road.

I'm beginning to get suspicious.

Thanks for the pics Tinkerbell. A friend of mine was able to join the search while LE was still searching. Was on a team with someone who had been a teacher of Bianca's. The teacher was suspicious even then.

Sounds like there is the possibility of familial foul play, but at this point I think it is just as likely some sicko grabbed her and she'll be found down river in the future. Sorry if that sounds bad, but I think by now there's very little hope of finding this poor girl alive.

WINFIELD, Mo. -- The CBS show, "Without a Trace," aired a segment Thursday on a missing 13-year-old girl from Lincoln County.

Bianca Nicole Piper disappeared March 10 after her mother gave her a flashlight and drove her less than a mile from home. She then told the girl to walk home to vent her frustrations.



Shannon Tanner says she did so on the advice of mental health specialists.



Tanner says that each day search teams do not find her daughter's remains in the woods, it gives her hope that Bianca is still alive.



Tanner also said she never anticipated the tumultuous turn her life would take following what she thought was an ordinary evening.



"I don't feel like I made a poor choice. I feel that we had it under control," Tanner said. "It worked well the night before, so I was confident that it would work again."

Tanner struggles to understand the controversy surrounding the decision to leave her daughter unattended.

"It's really not much different than a mother telling kids to go outside and play or letting a teenager walk to a friend's house."

Bianca apparently was upset about doing chores on the night she disappeared. Tanner says it was Bianca who requested taking another walk that night and to be dropped off even further from where she was dropped off the evening before.

Tanner says she suspects someone who watched her drop off Bianca abducted the child. She is concerned how the passing of time without medication could impact her daughter. Bianca spent her early childhood hospitalized for a severe form of bipolar disorder.

Tanner says the challenges of raising a mentally unstable child pale in comparison to the anguish of losing her.

"I love her so much and it didn't matter how hard it was to take care of her. I knew there was help if i needed help and I sought out the help. I took care of her the best I could."

The family is clinging to hope. After a month of unsuccessful leads, it appears there is little else they can depend on.

There is a $5,000 reward for tips leading to Bianca's return r the arrest of a kidnapper.

The ground search for Bianca is now limited to weekends but the search will be called off entirely at the end of the month.

I'm fairly local to this story and I haven't heard a thing. Although I saw that yesterday there was a body of a woman who appeared to be in her teans found in the Mississippi. Probably not her as geographicly I don't think she could end up in the Mississippi unless someone drove her quite a long way away to get rid of her. I don't hold out much hope of her being found alive.

I was wondering the same thing...Is this the story that the Mother dropped her off on the side of the rode because she was acting up, and told her to walk home??? I thought I read about this in the Modbee forum...

i'm having a hard time believing someone would forcefully take her into their car...she might be mentally challenged, but she weighs 185 lbs....it's not like they can just easily snatch her up....

i suspect she volunarily got into the car with someone (even after her parents told her not to), then who knows what could've happened after she got into the car.

Most likely, she got into the car with someone she knew...who was gonna offer her a ride home. I hope everyone that knew her has been questioned.

No, nothing new.
I've been so cynical about husbands with missing wives or kids, but I never questioned the mom's story until I read these last posts.
I thought the mom was careless, supposedly following the shrink's advice to drop Bianca off and make her walk, but now I tend to agree that the family knows more than they're telling... how do people find the nerve to lie so baldfaced??????
