Dixie dropped her daughter off for babysitting at a cousin's house in Springfield, MO on 07-11-71. Later that evening Dixie's vehicle was located abandoned near the intersection of Atlantic St and Missouri Ave in Springfield, MO. Dixie has not been seen since that date.

Police arrested a man about a week later in connection with her disappearance. His name had been mentioned to them by several people, including her father. An officer responding to a disturbance call had also gotten information about her disappearance from one of the persons involved.
She was a clerk in a local liquor store before she disappeared. A man named West Thoman was arrested and questioned.
Her father was the one who contacted police and is taking care of her daughter. No word of what came of Mr. Thoman's arrest.

Another article with the photo posted at NAMUS with her father asking for help in finding her. He says he is taking care of her 6 yo daughter Michel, who is sick.
Dixie drove a 1955 Chevy station wagon. Her father says at the time she disappeared, she was wearing her hair in a "short cut".
That's all I could find. No word as to whether the man they arrested was tried for the crime. Sad story, it sounds like he may have been involved but local police couldn't get enough evidence. From the wording in one of the articles, it sounds like there may have been more than one person involved in her disappearance.
