Kylr Yust attorneys granted motion to retest some evidence

90

Back in Feb the defense was granted their motion to test bone samples from both girls as well as hair found in a white SUV (Jessica's was black). All testing was to be done at the DNA Solutions lab in Oklahoma, according to the documents. The evidence was due to be returned to the Jackson County Medical Examiner’s Office and Belton Police Department by April 30. I haven't found any updates on if this was done, hopefully we hear more after June 1

In other news, True Crime Society talks about Kylr on their podcast from April 22. I haven't listened to it yet but Liv has a decent summary of a lot of info throughout both girl's threads that you may alternatively read here True Crime Society - The twisted world of Kylr Yust – Podcast Episode 4

In the motion, filed in Cass County on Tuesday, Yust’s St. Louis-based attorneys say they have been under stay-at-home orders for more than two months. On March 16, they were advised to self-quarantine after a co-worker was tested for the virus, according to the filing.

I don't know about you, but I got a lot done during stay-at-home time.

Then this. I don't know what to think.

Reports found when police were cleaning out an old desk at the Belton Police Department detailed circumstances of a witness providing information in 2013 about another suspect, whose car was later searched by the FBI. Also found in the desk was a recording of a suspect who confessed to multiple people that he killed Kara (the evidence defense got in April) Yust’s defense team also said they have identified witnesses who saw Kopetsky after she was reported missing May 4, 2007. They said that testimony would disprove a key element of the state’s case against Yust.

6/2/20 Update: Attorneys for accused double murderer Kylr Yust filed a motion this week asking for a delay in his trial, arguing the COVID-19 pandemic has "seriously hampered" their ability to provide counsel and interview potential witnesses. In addition to complications caused by the pandemic, his lawyers also argue they did not receive a police report regarding a witness who came forward in 2013 to provide information on another suspect, whose vehicle was later searched by the FBI, until January 2020. The reports were only found when the Belton Police Department cleaned out an old desk and contacted the prosecution, according to the filing. The lawyers also filed a second motion this week, requesting that Yust’s indictment be dismissed because of a violation of confidential communications. According to the filing, his lawyers were informed that a least two staff members at the Cass County Jail had listened to calls between Yust and his attorneys. These motions will be argued today. HARRISONVILLE, Mo. — A Kansas City police officer is accused of having an inappropriate sexual relationship with a witness in two high-profile metro area murders.

Kylr Yust is charged with murdering Kara Kopetsky and Jessica Runions. Investigators found the remains of both victims in a rural Cass County field in 2018.

According to lawyers, new reports recently disclosed by Belton police indicate a Kansas City police officer has been investigating the disappearance of Kopetsky in his spare time for the last ten years. During the off-book investigation, the officer allegedly had a sexual relationship with a witness in the case.

Cop accused of sexual relations with witness in Yust case

Oh boy here we go with the defense we won't get a fair trial! jmo
