Additional info from Jackson's testimony:

On cross examination Hastings was questioning Jackson about Kopetsky possibly having cutting tendencies based on her "emo girl" style. “There were a lot of girls listening to Taking Back Sunday and cutting themselves,” Jackson said.

Addtional info from Brugge's testimony:

He(Yust) said they were in a relationship for 9 months, and recently had broken up. He said he took her forcefully, put her in the truck, locked the door, and took off in his truck. Once he got to Grandview he realized what he had done, and turned around.

Beckford testified about a restraining order she and Kopetsky applied for against accused murderer Kylr Yust on April 30, 2007.

Beckford said Kopetsky came home with a cigarette burn on her skin caused by Yust, prompting them to apply for the restraining order.

“I am not sure he will do next because the abuse has gotten worse over time,” she said as she read from part of the restraining order written in her daughter’s handwriting.

Beckford said she last saw her daughter when she dropped her off at Belton High School on May 4. She went to drop off a textbook and Kara’s work uniform at the office later that morning, but never saw her daughter again.

She also read from a poem Kara wrote about Yust. Beckford found the poem in Kara’s room after she disappeared.

“After all the pain and suffering, I am through,” the poem read, in part.

Day 2 recap from Andres Gutierrez/41 Action News

https://www.kshb.com/news/crime/yus...rial-enters-2nd-day-1st-full-day-of-arguments

Here is the part from Harmon, Clark and Rittenhouse that Mike missed:

3:40 p.m. | Kansas City, Missouri, Officer Matt Rittenhouse takes the witness stand. He worked at Belton Police Department in 2007 and had some involvement in the search for Kopetsky in the days following her disappearance.

The defense's cross examination focused on reports Kopetsky had been seen at a local QuikTrip and Rittenhouse's alleged failure to obtain surveillance footage from the convenience store.

Rittenhouse said as a patrol officer, it wasn't his responsibility to follow up on leads in the case.

3:54 p.m. | The state called retired Belton police detective Mike Clark to the witness stand. He is a 34-year veteran of the department and interviewed Yust on May 7, 2007, three days after Kopetsky went missing.

4:30 p.m. | The state called Joel Harmon to testify. Harmon said his and Kopetsky's families were friends and the two had been briefly romantically involved.

In cross examination, the defense asked Harmon to read statements he gave, in which he doesn't mention the abuse.

Harmon said Kopetsky mentioned Yust to him as someone she might want to date. Later, he said Kopetsky confided in him that Yust was abusive and had allegedly put his hands around her neck.
