    Post-Dispatch:

St. Louis police identify off-duty officer killed by fellow officer who 'mishandled' gun inside home
An off-duty St. Louis police officer was shot and killed early Thursday when another officer "mishandled" a gun at a home in the Carondelet neighborhood.

The officer, 24-year-old Katlyn Alix, was in the living room of another officer who was on duty but at the home just before 1 a.m. when he "mishandled a firearm and shot (Alix) in the chest," police said in a written statement Thursday morning.

    Investigation continuing.

    ummm....

More from that article: Police Chief John Hayden said two male officers who were on duty went to one of their homes during their shift. Alix, who was off duty, stopped by and was shot in the chest in what Hayden called the "accidental discharge of a weapon."
    ...
She was killed with a revolver, not a department weapon, according to a police source.
    ...
There was no word on why the officers were all at an officer's home while two of them were on duty, or why they were handling the weapon. It's not clear who owned the weapon
    ...
The officer who shot Alix has been on the force about a year. The other on-duty officer who was there has been with the department about two years.

Not sure if this is the correct place to post this:

An off-duty police officer was accidentally shot and killed by another officer in St. Louis early Thursday morning, authorities said.
The accidental shooting occurred around 1 a.m. local time after two off-duty officers stopped by one of their homes during their shift. Officer Katlyn Alix, who was off-duty at the time, came by the residence and was shot in the chest, St. Louis Police Chief John Hayden Jr. told reporters at a press conference.

In reading this story two things popup. First the story is missing a lot of details. Second with the limited amount of details given it seems like an odd story

Accident or not this will be an embarrassment for the STLPD.

There's another thread just started for this story here. They have a link to the STL Post Dispatch, which has some more details.

MO - Off-duty officer shot dead by on-duty officer at latter's St. Louis home

The two officers not killed were actually on duty at the time, but were at the home of one of them. The other police officer was killed with a gun that wasn't a service weapon. It sounds a little sketchy JMO

Off-duty St. Louis officer killed by fellow cop who 'mishandled' gun inside home, police say

    This is odd:

Why did they wait for 10 minutes before radioing that an officer had been shot?

The article also said the other two officers weren't injured, but one of them went to the hospital anyway and was checked in for unknown reasons.

BBM: Um, yeah. Short on specifics, and what "details" there are seem sketchy at best. Interesting how quickly it was determined to be an "accidental" shooting, don't you think? Especially given that 2 of the officers were off duty but on shift at the time. What were they doing at the house? What was the relationship of both cops to Officer Alix?

SFAA: Another neighbor said on Twitter that she heard loud yelling that got her out of bed during the night. She also heard a loud thump, but nothing she recognized as a gunshot.

The other officers were not injured in the shooting, but the officer who fired the gun at Alix was hospitalized Thursday morning after delivering Alix to the hospital, a source close to the investigation said. The department has not confirmed his status, and it wasn't clear why he was hospitalized.

    From your link:

They were all 3 young officers in their late 20's with only a year or two of experience on the force. The Post Dispatch article said the deceased woman officer was also married to another StL police officer, but he was not there or involved in the incident.

Who's apartment was it? She drove over and met them there. What was up with that?

On-duty officers were not in assigned district when off-duty officer was shot, police say

"Whats going on is that two on-duty officers went by one of their homes," St. Louis Police Chief John Hayden said during a Thursday morning press conference. "They were on duty. While they were at that particular home, an off-duty female officer came to that home. While they were there at that home there was, what we understand to be, an accidental discharge. The female off-duty officer was shot in the chest and she was brought to the hospital by those officers. Upon arrival shortly there after she was pronounced deceased."

BBM: If I were the Chief, I think I might have stopped myself right there.

Off-duty St. Louis officer killed by fellow cop who ‘mishandled’ gun inside home, police say

    SABBMFAA:

She was killed with a revolver, not a department weapon, according to a police source. Alix and the two on-duty male officers were close and often worked together, the source said.

A gun was recovered by investigators at the scene. There was no word on why the officers were all at an officer’s home while two of them were on duty, when policy requires them to be patrolling in their assigned district. It’s not clear who owned the weapon. Hayden would not say how many shots had been fired, how many times Alix had been shot nor whether anyone was in custody.

Well, presumably, if this was an "accidental" shooting, the REVOLVER would have only "accidentally" discharged once.

The officer "accidentally" shoots off a non-service weapon.
While on duty. But out of district.

    This is beyond Shady Acres.

I am very curious as to what these two officers' stories are. I admit my first thoughts were not at all that this sounded like an "accident". It just sounds very.... fishy. I can't imagine what her family must be going through.

BBM: Me, neither. Articles state she was just married last October...so a newlywed husband is now a widower. It's tragic.

Tragic, Yes. Accidental? Jury's still out on that one, despite the thread title.

It will be very interesting to see how this plays out when a cop is shot by another cop. How will they find a way to blame the victim??

What? Loud yelling heard by the neighbor. Ok....that is enough to know there is more to this story.

Outside the department investigation is needed immediately.
