Here's one address for him and more info on him:

"McCormick had a St. Louis address, 1400 Chouteau Avenue, and several addresses in Illinois, O'Connor said. McCormick was not married, he said, but he was the father of at least four children. Police are working with McCormick's friends and family members to establish his whereabouts during the past few days.
He was last seen alive late in the afternoon of June 25 at Forest Park Hospital in St. Louis, the former Deaconess Hospital, where he was receiving medication from his doctor, O'Connor said. No one had reported him missing, he said.
McCormick had a criminal record, but O'Connor and St. Charles County Sheriff's Sgt. Kevin Wilson said they do not believe it contributed to his death.
Authorities said he had a criminal record and was convicted on a charge of statutory rape. He was sentenced to three years but served 11 months, they said.

The more I think about it, if it is true that he had very little education, perhaps he could not read, but could pronounce the letters of the alphabet and numbers. He would have then developed his own writing system by sounding out the words with the sounds of these symbols to match the way he heard and or spoke words. It would explain the repetition of letter combinations because they might represent common speech sounds.

When it came to numbers, if technically illiterate, he would certainly recognize them (e.g. highway numbers, etc) and could also use them for phonetic parts of words or whole words (e.g. 6 for sex).

If I am onto something here (and being a noob at this I'm probably not), it might explain why experts have been confounded by this code. It is not about patterns, it's about sounds. The mystery is how did Ricky hear the spoken word and/or pronounce it himself?

Take the letter sequence: GLSE for example. I now see that in Ricky-speak as "jealosy". I'm going to have to start all over.

I think you right about the way the code is written but also if Ricky had hearing issues would be another thing to have to factor in and if he also read and wrote some letters backwords.

Then how he spoke ,and the slang he used.

Why is the FBI even interested? I really think they broke the code already but do they just want to see if it CAN be broken by say anyone? Is this a test of national security? :waitasec:

I got the the born date I posted yesterday where it looked as if an E was used as an 8 . I also made out what appeared to be the word murder in the code. Which is why I believe the code will not be uniform . He does not use the sounds and or abrvs, exclusively.

Of course we could just be nuts.:crazy:

Tried to post this before but I don't know if it went through. My feeling about his writing crypticly since childhood brings to mind savant linguistics rather than a code to be cracked.

You have more faith in the FBI than I do. Lot's of murders go unsolved, this is just one. If by some wild stretch my theory is right, the wonks could easily have over-thought it. It happens all the time in many fields.

If your suspicion about the FBI's motives are even close to correct, I would see it more as a cheap way to audition new talent because the old talent missed a lot (911, etc). I really respect law enforcement, but they are just people. I suspect getting really stellar people for such a tough job might be more difficult than many think.

At any rate, I don't care one way or the other. If someone here can crack it, as a noob watching this thought process and learning, I think it would be damned cool.

Could Ricky have been a gambler? Fairmount Park isn't too far from Alton. With the repetition, looks at a glance to be coded jottings for horse races; exacta, overlay, parlay, superfecta, on the nose, odds to win. But from his pic, his right eye was in charge. His left eye did the work. ;)

My son is a big time gamer so I just called him out here and had him look at these "codes" he said he has never seen any cheat codes that look like this. I remember when he was younger he used to have me go online and get the codes for him.. once when my printer was broken I had to write 'em all by hand and I don't recall 'em looking anything like what this kid had written either. It's more like what you have written.. left, right, up down, red, yellow, green, etc.

No, I think that he may have used the pronounced sound of the letter (eg L as in Leg) as well as the letter sound (eg L and in EL-evator). That is perhaps why the letter Q is conspicuously absent; because it is as difficult to use in this code as it is in the game of Scrabble.
 
I'm from some of the same places where this guy lived. There's a lot of focus on Missouri and St. Louis on this thread , but you shouldn't forget that three of his former addresses are on the Illinois side of the river. For example, if you look at his county records (in Illinois), you can still find him listed for two serious charges that were dismissed:

In a sample that small, it's entirely possible Q didn't appear in the first place.

I think you're onto something with the pronounced sound.
 
Social Security Death Index has a Ricky McCormick , from Missouri, that died in 2004.
There are 5 results for "Ricky McCormick" but none died in 1999.
If he was on Social Security disability he would definitely show up on the SSDIndex. But there are no Ricky McCormicks on there that died in 1999.
