From reading around FB he had been "part of the family" and even attended the baby's first birthday party. She most likely looked to him as an Uncle or the like. What went so wrong here?

Good Lord that is awful. So now another little girl has to grow up without her Dad and with the knowledge of what her Dad did!

As for the status hearing, I don't find it TOO unusual. Each judge has their own way of doing things and this one appears to want to have early control of this case.

    Agree.

Also momma mode over here, it physically pains me to think that she had zero idea that she was in such danger. Sick.

    No words

Atchison should probably hope for the death penalty, because he'll most likely be in a single cell and isolated from the general prison population, who don't look kindly on the cold-blooded murder of a little girl.

I just hope he was properly advised of his Miranda rights on video and properly waived them and his confession is on video.

I live in MO so this case is pretty local for me. I am familiar with the area where this happened. The town and area is very tight knit, an area where people live to avoid "big city" crimes. Nothing ever happens like this. Where you don't have to even think there "is a killer among us". Even if you don't know someone, you know someone who does. Something like this has affected people and families spread over three counties.

I had trouble sleeping last night, thinking about this case and that has never happened before. But the same thought as you kept going through my mind. I am glad that the MO Highway Patrol was involved from the beginning. They are the ones that are accustomed to process.

"The murders are believed to have occurred Jan. 25. Million’s truck was found Jan. 26 at a residence on Cemetery Road in Williamsville. There appeared to be blood in the bed of the truck, according to a probable cause statement written by Corporal J.A. Lacy of the Highway Patrol."

He used to call me mom…he was here at my granddaughter’s first birthday party

"The grieving mother said she was told Atchison, along with two women, wanted to move in with her daughter and Million. The couple decided against it and Christa was told that this was the reason why Atchison went into a “fit of rage” and ultimately ended the lives of her daughter, granddaughter and Million.
“I was told that’s why he killed them,” Christa stated. “Completely senseless. He just went crazy when they told him he and two other women couldn’t move in.”

"The woman said the one thing that brings her peace is that Kitts, Million and Willa will be buried together in one casket on Million’s family’s land. All three funerals are being paid for by an advocacy group and will be held together, she stated."

Christa believed Atchison had gotten into drugs “sometime back” and said her daughter and Million “had no part of it.”

“They were still kind to him and let him in,” she said, adding that she believed the suspect may have been into crystal meth. “But they told him he is not to come around when he’s high and they want nothing to do with that part of his life.”

Finally, FINALLY we have a young family who made a good choice in the best interest of their precious little one and they were brutally murdered for it. I’m sick.

The article said the mother was very surprised to hear that Atchison tested negative for meth. I'm not sure how long meth says detectable in the body. But I know that meth users can be prone to violence when they come off a high. Seems extreme to murder your best friends because they wont let you stay at their home.

I am right there with the mother, Atchison needs to get a death sentence. This evening Texas is set to execute a man that murdered his own children. Good riddance!

MDOC began to stop using the word "death row," believing it to be negative, and began referring to death row prisoners as ""capital punishment" (CP) inmates."[5] For the first time in MDOC history, the state began to allow death row prisoners to leave their housing units, with staff escorts, to eat meals. When no serious incidents occurred, MDOC officials began to use an escort system so death row prisoners could use the gymnasium. The death row prisoners also began to have access to the law library, and death row prisoners were permitted to work in the laundry facility. On January 8, 1991, death row prisoners were fully mainstreamed into the population.[6]

Iirc from another case meth can be detected by urinalysis for up to about 1-3 days after use or 12hrs with a blood test.

I believe there might be some confusion regarding the toxicology report. Ms. Skitts may have been told of a clean toxicology report, but I think they may have been talking about H. Million. D. Atchison was arrested Monday morning and without an attorney yet surely would not consent to a blood test by LE. A probable cause statement was not filed right away so I don't see a Judge signing a search warrant to take one. Much less get a definitive result for evidence. Also much less divulge that result to the victim family.

I have no doubt that the Mother was not only in shock at the time but still is and will be forever. I just think there was either miscommunication by the Mother or maybe the media that reported that Atchison's toxicology report came out clean.

Atchison's case got a change of venue and Judge (which is almost automatic in MO) to Cole County which is Jefferson City, MO. A new Judge has not been assigned yet. When there is I will post it here. Have talked to Samara's Mother a couple times. That poor woman.
