Alexandria "Ally" Kostial, a 21-year-old student at Ole Miss, was found dead in Harmontown, Mississippi, over the weekend, the Lafayette County Sheriff's Department said.

Maj. Alan Wilburn said deputies discovered the body of a white woman while on routine patrol Saturday morning.

ilburn said in a statement that Lafayette County Sheriff's Department investigators were working with the Mississippi Bureau of Investigations, the Mississippi Crime Lab Crime Scene Unit, the University of Mississippi Police Department and Oxford Police Department.

"It is apparent that foul play was involved," he said.

A 21-year-old student at the University of Mississippi was found dead near a lake over the weekend — and foul play is suspected, authorities said.

The body of Alexandria “Ally” Kostial was discovered Saturday morning in Harmontown, about 20 miles from the Ole Miss campus in Oxford, news station KTVI reported.

It’s unclear what caused her death, but the case is under investigation, according to the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department.

Kostial, who was from St. Louis, Mo., was working toward a bachelor’s degree in marketing and set to graduate next year, the news station KMOV reported.

Alexandria Kostial’s body was reportedly found near a lake in northern Mississippi, about 30 miles from Oxford and the Ole Miss Campus.


Kostial was a graduate of Lindbergh High School. She was reportedly studying marketing at the college and was set to graduate next year.

HARMONTOWN — Authorities say foul play is suspected in the death of an Ole Miss student whose body was found over the weekend about 30 miles from campus.

The body of 21-year-old Alexandria 'Ally' Kostial, of St. Louis, Missouri, was found Saturday, Lafayette County Coroner Rocky Kennedy said Monday morning. Kennedy declined to provide further details except to say that an autopsy has been requested. He directed further questions to the Lafayette County Sheriff's Department.

A spokesperson for the sheriff's department could not immediately be reached for comment. WREG-TV reports a Lafayette County Sheriff's Department news release says foul play was apparently involved in the woman's death. It's unclear what led authorities to come to the conclusion.

Kostial's father, Keith Kostial, posted on Facebook that his daughter had been attending summer school and teaching fitness classes at the university. He says she graduated from Lindbergh High School in 2016.

Neighbors told WMCA-TV that they were surprised to see emergency responders in their small and remote neighborhood. “I was sitting on the couch and saw the ambulance go by and was curious and went outside and then the next thing I know the coroner came by and two unmarked vehicles,” M B, a neighbor, told the news station. She added, “I just can’t imagine what the parents are going through right now and their family. It’s just very devastating.”

Another neighbor, J B B, told WMCA, “You shouldn’t have to bury your kids. Nobody can describe that kind of pain and it’s forever. It doesn’t go away. It gets better but it doesn’t go away.”

Ole Miss student from St. Louis mysteriously found dead, foul play suspected

Police said they were on routine patrol when they found 21-year-old Alexandria ‘Ally’ Kostial dead. Her body was found near a lake – about 30 miles from campus.

'Yesterday, Saturday afternoon, we were visited by the Sunset Hills MO Police who communicated to us that our beautiful dear Alexandria (Ally) Kostial was the victim of a homicide. As of now, it is believed the crime happened in Lafayette County, MS.' Keith Kostial said on Facebook.

Friends described Kostial as sweet and genuine and said she always had a smile on her face.

The Lafayette County sheriff's office, in a news release, said "it is apparent that foul play was involved." Major Alan Wilburn did not say what led him to that conclusion.

Wilburn refused to say any more for fear, he said, that it would jeopardize the investigation. He said investigators are following several leads.

The fact that LE is stating they're following several leads gives me hope that they will solve AK's murder quickly.

LE seems to be keeping things close the vest so far, which is expected. Though they did come right and say it is likely foul play. So I am guessing the cause of death must be apparent and/or positioning of the body or clothing or lack there of.
So tragic. Beautiful young woman. From her photos she obviously had traveled a great deal. I hope there are leads.
