Gary Lee Hope was last seen driving away from his job, a construction site on Battle Road in Pass Christian, on July 20th and hasn’t been seen since.
The Harrison County Sheriff’s Department did locate his vehicle on August 3, 2017 at the Tuxachanie Hiking Trail located on Highway 49 in Saucier. Law enforcement have conducted numerous searches along the hiking trail and surrounding wooded areas along with Gulf Coast Search and Rescue with no results. Hope was last seen wearing a white t-shirt and blue jean pants.

Gary Hope was last seen leaving work in Pass Christian, MS, on July 20, 2017. Mr. Hope did not return to work on July 21, 2017, and was reported missing on July 24, 2017. Mr. Hope's vehicle was located at the Tuxachanie Hiking Trail (26154 Hwy 49, Saucier, MS) in Northern Harrison County on August 3, 2017. Several searches for Mr. Hope have been conducted along the hiking trail with negative results.

Distinguishing Characteristics Caucasian male. Graying brown hair, brown hair. Hope previously had his ears pierced; by the time of his disappearance, he no longer wore earrings, but the holes may still be present. He has a linear scar on his abdomen and a linear scar above his right eye.

Details of Disappearance
Hope was last seen leaving work in Pass Christian, Mississippi on July 20, 2017, driving his black 2004 Ford 5-150 pickup truck with the Mississippi license plate number KB7681. He has never been heard from again.

On August 3, his truck was found parked at the Tuxachanie Hiking Trail on U.S. 49 in Saucier, Mississippi. Searches of the trail haven't turned up any sign of Hope, however. His case remains unsolved.

RESOLVED​

On the morning of Christmas Day, 2018, Hope's skeletal remains were found near the Tuxachanie Hiking Trail in the Desoto National Forest. They were not identified until October 2020, however. The cause of death could not be determined.

Three Years Later: Skeletal remains found in Desoto National Forest officially identified

Three years later, a family’s search has finally come to an end after investigators confirmed the identity of the skeletal remains that were found in the Desoto National Forest on Christmas morning of 2018.

Authorities confirmed that the skeletal remains found near the Tuxachanie Hiking Trail belonged to 59-year-old Gary Lee Hope.
