''Circled is the bag of bones which police have confirmed are human remains''
  • ''Police were called to River Stour in Sudbury at around 4.30pm yesterday
  • Walker reported finding bin bags inside shopping trolley submerged in the water
  • Suffolk Police have confirmed that the bones in the bags are human remains''
''A walker reported the bin bags to a park ranger who moved them from the shopping trolley before realising they contained bones and calling the police.

There are now two police scenes – one around the area of the river where the bags were discovered and the other around the spot where the bags were moved to. ''

the police are asking if anyone seen anything suspicious....this seems to suggest someone may have moved the remains for some reason fairly recently
If so why would someone move remains?

House move?
Knowing an area of public grounds where a body is hidden may be due to be dug up?

Just thinking out loud

Apologies beforehand for graphic post. That remains were found still in shopping trolley might suggest that victim's remains were moved while still heavy/not skeletal. Otherwise I think no shopping trolley would be needed just for transporting bones unless suspect being elderly or disabled in some way.

It was quite hot most of July and August so decomposition would be quite rapid, not sure if already skeletal though if this was recent. But in those months also more people would be by the river so someone might have seen it and remember now if it was there already.

As remains were found in two bags is fair to assume it was dismemberment. One good thing in this tragedy is that remains were contained in the bags so probably all were found and did not get chance to get scattered by animals or fish or some washed away by river. That suspect dumped also whole trolley in the river is a bit mind boggling. Not very bright.

Police questions to public is to get possible leads and also possibly some closer timeframe.
Just my scattered thoughts.

I agree it doesn't seem a very bright method of disposal
Because they are described as bones rather than human remains it makes me wonder how long this person has been dead
The shopping trolley is a strange one as the Sainsburys is not the supermarket

I suppose it's completely far-fetched to think the bags became randomly entangled in the shopping trolley in the water, but the thought that someone was pushing a shopping trolley with bags of remains around, then dumps them in the river is just crazy. Wouldn't someone pushing a trolley in that area stick out vividly?

How far is this from where Corrie went missing? (Ex-Pat US in the UK, my geography is terrible.)

Anyone else from the immediate area listed as a missing person?

rbbm. Did the perp choose that site to dump the remains wholly because of the water, or because of the proximity to the churches? speculation, imo.

''TWO bin bags full of human bones found in a river may have been dumped just hours before they were found, it emerged today.''

''Residents have speculated that the black bags were not in the water for long as the river is well maintained and any rubbish is quickly cleared up.

Dog walker Barry Rock, 54, said he saw a Sainsbury’s trolley left beside a parking place on Wednesday evening just 100 yards from where the bags were found.''

“It was a surprise to see it there because it is about a mile and half from the supermarket. It looked quite new and did not appear to have been in the water.”

''The ranger fished the bags out and carried them 200 yards to a grass area beside the Roman Catholic church of Our Lady and St John the Evangelist.''

“They saw a dumped shopping trolley and there was a man who was acting suspiciously. She said he kept looking at them and the trolley.”

Post-mortem fails to identify mystery human bones found in Suffolk river - LBC News
Aug 30 2020
''A post-mortem examination has failed to identify the person or cause of death of two mysterious bags of bones found in a Suffolk town earlier this week.''

''Det. supt. Brown said: "This initial examination has unfortunately not been able to move us any further forward at this stage.

"The remains will now be subject to further specialist forensic tests which we hope will provide us with more information.
This process will take time, so it may be a little while until we are able to provide any further significant updates.''

''Officers have also closed the footpath between Meadow Gate and Croft Gate along the river - including the Croft Road footbridge - for the next several days.

Detectives are appealing for anyone who may have driven their vehicle in the vicinity of The Croft since Monday 24 August and has a dash cam fitted, to review the footage to see if they captured anything of significance.''

I wonder if the bags still had any markings on them and if that would be useful in establishing a time frame? It was a Sainsbury cart, were they Sainsbury bags? Logos on bags change over the years and if any markings could be made out, I would think the bags could be easily traced. Unless they were the plain electric blue bags that every corner in shop uses. How long have those been around? (I've only lived here 5.5 years.)
