The remains of a soldier from Chino who was killed during a camping trip in North Carolina were flown back to Los Angeles on Wednesday for burial and military honors.

His remains were flown back to Los Angeles International Airport, where his family, accompanied by U.S. Rep. Norma Torres, participated in a planeside military honor ceremony.

His remains were then brought to Forest Lawn Memorial in Covina for burial.

The investigation continues into Martinez's death but no suspects have been identified.

Enrique Roman-Martinez: Remains Of Murdered 21-Year-Old Army Paratrooper From Chino Come Home

Another link..sorry, I know I’m posting quite a few links, well actually any link I find. This case breaks my heart. Nobody has the right to take someone else’s life like this. I pray for comfort and answers for this family.

A procession was held in Covina on Wednesday to bring Army Specialist Enrique Roman-Martinez to his final resting place just a few minutes from his hometown of Chino.

The 21-year-old was a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division.

“I don’t think closure is possible yet until we have the answers and we know what went on on that island. Then we’ll feel like there was justice served,” Roman-Martinez’s sister Veronica Martinez said.

Officials have not yet made any arrests in the case or released any details about possible suspects.

Remains of murdered soldier come home

This is incredibly sad. ERM’s sister’s words are heartbreaking.

The remains of Army paratrooper specialist Enrique Roman-Martinez of Chino arrived Wednesday afternoon in a casket draped with a U.S. flag at Los Angeles International Airport and given a planeside military funeral service bestowed on soldiers for honorable service.

His casket was escorted a few hours later to Forest Lawn Cemetery where the family spoke in anguish as they continue to demand answers from Army criminal investigators about the 21-year-old's death, which has been ruled a homicide.

“My baby brother came home, not whole but he's home,"
his sister Griselda Martinez said at Forest Lawn. "Now we can lay him to rest. There are seven individuals who are staying silent. They know what happened to my brother, but they're refusing to speak up. They went on the camping trip with my brother and didn't report him missing for 19 hours."

She continued: "Where is the camaraderie? Where were they when my baby brother was being dismembered? I want them to see that Enrique was loved so much. I want them to feel ashamed and guilty...there is no honor in silence."

Funeral and burial services for family members and invited guests will be held today (Aug. 22) at St. Joseph's Church in Pomona, followed by burial at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Covina.

Honored Army paratrooper from Chino laid to rest, his death still a mystery – Daily Bulletin

ERM was laid to rest Saturday, August 22, 2020.
Rest In Peace ❤️

Growing up, baby brother Enrique “Quique” Roman-Martinez imagined himself as the heroic blue Power Ranger, beating the bad guys, saving the day and driving his older sisters crazy.

Born in Pomona and raised in Chino, he was youngest of three children. He was funny, kind, calm and spiritual, family members said, and often described as a peacemaker.

So it stunned his family when at the age of 17, he decided to join the Army. He had graduated early from Buena Vista High School, and though he was known for playing video games and making his sisters watch his beloved anime series, he had big plans to provide for his family and his future by joining the military.

Enrique was part of the Engineer Battalion of the 37th Brigade, the Combat Team of the 2nd Brigade and the 82nd Airborne Division.

In the four years that Enrique served in the Army, he became a paratrooper and a human resources specialist, and served as part of the Immediate Response Force — a role that meant he could be deployed anywhere in the world at a moment’s notice.

For his work, he was lauded with commendations such as the Army Commendation Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, and the Basic Paratrooper Badge.
Wow, this does not seem like the obituary of a soldier - and for his family not to even know the names of his "friends" he went on this "camping trip" with... I'm afraid this murder may have been the culmination of years of bullying. How awful.

Supporters gathered in downtown Los Angeles Sunday to demand justice for a paratrooper from Chino who was murdered in North Carolina.

Loved ones want a congressional investigation into the murder of Spc. Enrique Roman-Martinez.

Supporters on Sunday sold T-shirts and raised funds for awareness. They are asking for the public to get involved and demand an investigation.

Supporters say they will speak up and march until the truth comes out.

The names of the other seven witnesses who went on the camping trip have not been revealed.

The 21-year-old Fort Bragg soldier found dead this summer on North Carolina’s Outer Banks was decapitated, an autopsy report says.

“While decapitation is, in and of itself, universally fatal, the remainder of the body in this case was not available for examination, and therefore potential causes of death involving the torso and extremities cannot be excluded,” the report states. “A definitive cause of death cannot be determined, (but) the findings in this case are most consistent with death due to homicide.”

Among the findings:
“Evidence of multiple chop injuries of the head” and a jaw broken in at least two places, the report says.

A toxicology report was also done and detected no evidence of drug use in the soldier’s tissues, officials said.

Bragg Paratrooper's severed head had multiple chop wounds, autopsy says

Here’s an additional link. No one deserves this! And his poor family...bless their hearts.

The autopsy report, which is from the Division of Forensic Pathology at East Carolina University’s Brody School of Medicine, lists the cause of death as “homicide by undetermined means.” It was digitally signed by Dr. Randall K. Falls Jr. on Nov. 4.

The autopsy examined a severed head, as neither the torso nor any extremities were available, according to the report. It showed evidence of multiple chop injuries, a broken jaw, cuts and a fractured cervical spine.

Roman-Martinez’s sister, Griselda Martinez, said she and other members of his family first saw the autopsy report Thursday. She said it was difficult to read some of the details, including that her brother’s eyes were missing and his hair had been pulled out.

Martinez said family members felt like they needed to read the report.

“Everything about this case doesn’t make sense,” she said.

Investigators have updated the family, but haven’t provided many details, Martinez said.

“Me and my family are left wondering,” she said. “The biggest question is, ‘Why?’”

Martinez said she believes someone knows what happened to her brother.

Lt. Col. Mike Burns, an 82nd spokesman, said a $25,000 reward remains in place for information leading to the apprehension and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the murder.

Burns said the FBI is helping Army investigators on the case.

“We remain committed to finding those responsible for the senseless killing of our teammate, Spc. Roman-Martinez,” Burns said. “We also remain in constant contact with his family to keep them informed on progress with the case.”

Ugh, I have the same question his poor family does...why!?

|Martinez said she believes someone knows what happened to her brother.
I'm willing to bet about 7 persons know what happened to her brother. The injuries described in what little of a postmortem they were able to perform do not describe anything that could have happened naturally.

MOO.

omg!!! MULTIPLE chops?? this was a cold blooded murder, i wish his so called friends would get leaned on hard already.

My thoughts as well mlhenn, he was standing on the side of the jeep while it was traveling at a high rate of speed and he fell off. I read upthread the jeep was followed by a blue truck, I believe. Even though he was not known to be a risk taker, (according to his sister) that kind of activity might seem harmless to someone his age.
I am with that though as well, seems like a likely cause of death, what happened afterwards is criminal!
