Notes from the press conference, 3:30PM (EST) 11/7/18

Police Chief Michael McNeill…
  • The image recently released of the SUV was captured near HNA’s home minutes after the kidnapping Monday.
  • They’ve also found a second image on a different camera as well. It’s grainy, but it’s the same stolen SUV that she was forced into.
  • Those pictures help them, but they need evidence to find HNA and bring her home safe.
  • They are asking anyone in the Lumberton area who may have a camera, or video surveillance system, to save the video and contact them immediately at 910-272-5871.
  • Please call the special tip line if you have any footage at all. Call them, and they will come out and take the footage.
  • Call 911 if you see the stolen 2002 or 2003 (same body style) Ford Expedition with the SC license plate NWS-984.
FBI Agent Supervisor Andy Delarocha
  • They need to speak with anyone who lives in Rosewood Mobile Home Park, anyone who drove by, or has visited the area.
  • Please call them at the special tip line at 910-272-5871.
  • As a reminder, the FBI is offering a reward of up to $15,000 for information leading to the location of Hania.
FBI Special Agent Liza Vita
  • Provided remarks in Spanish
Some Q&A notes …

FBI Andy Delarocha
  • They’re not going into the exact locations of the surveillance still image. If they tell people, they don’t want to discourage people who may not be in those areas to share their own footage.
  • They are receiving tips and leads from the community. They are hopeful with the publication of a $15,000 reward will increase the calls coming into the tip-line.
  • They’re not excluding anyone in this investigation. He reminded that the family is fully cooperating with LE. They are not excluding any group of individuals as potential suspects in this investigation.
  • They have no reason to believe that she knows her abductor, either.
  • It’s been very important to work with families. There are things family’s know, to get their perspective and assessment of this situation, and anything they might be able to add.

“Police, the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office, FBI agents and agents with the State Bureau of Investigation are following nearly 50 leads, the release said.”

Lets hope and pray that one of them is the right lead for Hania's sake

I just heard him say they don't have any reason to believe she knows her abductor (from presser).
I can't hear the reporter questions...

They have multiple photos of the car from surveillance now.

2nd photo will be emailed to press in a few minutes

Pleading one last time for anyone with video in the area to share it with LE so they can trace the car...

Presser is over.

Ugh if she doesn't know her abductor. That would lead me to believe it was a stalker/sexual predator situation which very rarely ends well for a teenage female victim. :( My hope at this point is that whoever did this wanted to have or possess Hania which would increase the chances she is alive. Really was hoping it was a familial situation for her personal safety since we've passed the 48 hour threshold now.

November 7, 2018 | Press Release - FBI Charlotte

SUV Wanted in Connection with Kidnapped Teen Spotted on Surveillance Camera in Lumberton

The Lumberton Police Department and the FBI have uncovered a photo of the SUV wanted in connection with the kidnapping of 13-year-old Hania Noelia Aguilar. The stolen SUV was spotted on a surveillance camera in Lumberton. Investigators have been collecting and analyzing surveillance video since Hania was taken from her home on November 5, 2018. The image was captured near her home minutes after the kidnapping.

We are asking anyone in the Lumberton area who may have a camera or video surveillance system to save the video and contact the tip line immediately at 910-272-5871. Even if you do not see the vehicle in your video, please call the tip line anyway, as it may still contain important information.

If he were “on the run,” he would need to buy gas.
Yeah, lol, of course I thought of that. But if it were him, I would expect him to just take another car rather than stand around at a gas station in a stolen car with all those cameras. But who knows.

  • #447
Ftr just sayin, just becasue there is no indication at this time that she knew her abductor doesn’t necessarily mean that she didn’t know her abductor, kwim? Also LE does fib sometimes, just sayin.

Not saying this is the case, just sayin.

(That was a lot of “just sayin”s)

If someone knows about this perpetrator or suspects someone, I hope and pray that his or her conscience motivates them to send in an anonymous tip.

Maybe I'm being too hopeful but it isn't impossible. It has occurred before.

I think the prevailing theory with that is that perp stole the vehicle to make a getaway then drove it to a location where his car was and exchanged so then he could fill up with gas and go about his way without being noticed. The abduction was coordinated and precise enough and perp was clearly dressed to commit it which shows some level of planning.

From all reports, Hania was grabbed and forced into the vehicle in a very compacted timeframe so I would agree that perp likely had some other means of transportation available somewhere nearby. The stolen vehicle could be parked somewhere abandoned or could've been dismantled or anything else but I'd be surprised if perp is ever discovered driving it at this point.

I was hoping the same :(
The night before she went missing I watched the Jaycee Duggard documentary. I hardly slept thinking about it, then I woke up to hanias abduction! Couldn’t believe my eyes. Let’s hope that they’ll find her like they did Jaycee but sooner rather than later! There’s still hope.

ETA:
Here’s something else @Inthedetails, you and I have always had some great discussions over the years, and I feel that we usually have seen eye to eye, down to that time we were both like from the beginning “DN isn’t BG”—-My point? I find it interesting you see just the opposite. And I love this becasue to me that is which inspires constructive conversations and I so value everyone’s different thoughts!

Snipped. @margarita25

I ALWAYS appreciate a constructive conversation. I've left threads when the speculation is forced into one direction only. I like to "think aloud" on the thread and talk through different ideas - and it's frustrating when brainstorming is shot down. Some threads are great, and this is turning into one of them as we all are pondering possibilities. I will be glad, however, when we get more facts to focus our thoughts.

I'm always happy to see the giraffe avatar on threads!! :) I know that picture means a good convo.

I wish the police, especially the FBI woman who is fluent in Spanish, would hold an information meeting in the mobile home park.

Bring the caring of this investigative team to the area. Show you care and you want to listen to community members there. I know that they do care, I just like the positive idea of them showing up in the community.

Who knows? Perhaps something will be said during a conversation at an information meeting that will jog someone's memory.

Perhaps the authorities don't feel a meeting like this would work but I think why not?

I really don't think it's the car, but if anyone would like to call in a tip, please do. :)

I sent in that tip to have them check out that previous news conference video to see if that vehicle matches the suspects vehicle. I felt it was better to be safe and have them check it out. I gave them all the information how to view the previous news conference video.

I'm wondering if there is an older teen that hasn't attended school since Monday.
Just thinkin'.

ABC11.com, 11/07/18, 10:55 AM

The mobile home park is a secluded area (birds-eye-view, google earth).
Monday mornings: people going to work, taking kids to school.
SUV is an older model, not of any 'auto-theft' value.
Perpetrator wore face-covering (yellow bandanna).
Perpetrator wore dark clothes.
Victim(s) are Spanish-speaking.

Unless this is a Romeo-Juliet-type thing, I'm leaning towards cartel-type thing.

I'm getting more and more worried about this case, folks.

In your opinions, do you guys think Hania looks older for her age? I’m asking this for the purpose of thinking about the abductor’s potential victim preferences (even though we know age is not always an indicator).

(Gosh I feel like I know all you guys. Our case histories together are getting quite thick.)

ETA: So this is not many of our first rodeos with child abductions, yet they always seem to baffle.

Are we truly baffled? Or are the signs right there in front of us...?

Can Occam tell us anything here?

If we go by Occam this is what we know.

The vehicle's engine was already on at the time of the kidnapping.

We have a 13 year old young girl heard screaming and seen being forced inside the already running vehicle.

Imo a child that willingly goes with anyone does not scream. Does not have to be forced inside of vehicle in order to leave with perp.

She wouldnt want to draw any attention to them if she was leaving willingly. If she did that she would know they could possibly be stopped from leaving.

So using Occam it tells me we have a 13 year old girl who has been kidnapped by either a stranger who had been watching her or someone who didn't know her personally really well or her family but may be a neighbor or lives in the area.

If he only wanted the vehicle he could have taken it when she was outside of it. His target had to be Hania.

IMOO he easily could have yanked her out before leaving with the vehicle if stealing the vehicle had been his motive.

He forced her inside because kidnapping her was his motive all along. Imo

Just my take on it sweet Margarita and you and so many here are great sluethers.

Imo

This sounds like a brazen attacker to me, possibly gang affiliations (bandana) and carjacking MO, as mentioned perhaps since he came out of nowhere. He would have to have known she would be there at that time—-is there any place around there to watch from the woods, etc?

I think a deep research of other similar attempted abductions is in order.

One thing I want to mention is there was an another MP in NC somewhat near this area iirc? I feel horrible but I’m drawing a blank on her name..Nicole maybe? She worked at Walmart iirc? Her father was a cop and her step mother was named as a POI. I don’t think she has been found yet but she was Native American, iirc?

Sara Graham NC - NC - Sara Graham, 18, Fairmont, 4 February 2015 - #3

She disappeared near Fairmont, which Googlemaps says is about 15 minutes or so away.

Thanks so much for doing that. I didn't feel confident enough to call it in, but I always appreciate it when someone calls in a tip. You are right, it is better to be safe. LE are in the best position to check it out and decide if it's relevant or not.

Does anyone know off hand if this a model of vehicle that lets the driver control automatic windows and can keep the passenger from lowering the window and keeps doors locked?

Right now I think he is driving and she may be an unwilling passenger. I can almost make out someone up against the window if I am seeing things right. Its all blurry but something seems there in passenger window.

Gosh this is so terrifying to think about. I hope she can be found safe.

Jumping off your post, for some reason I get the feeling that HNA would have entered through the passenger side door to turn on the vehicle. Since she wasn't of driving age, I'd imagine she would be more comfortable entering through the passenger side door, vs the driver's side. Although for a quick getaway, the reverse might make more sense, with the perp pushing her through the driver's side and into the passenger side, and being more convenient as it would only take a step or two for him to be in the driver's seat, and able to speed off.

As for potential locking features, here's a link to a manual for 2002 Ford Expedition which may outline some of those details:
