A High Point woman found in a McLeansville ditch in June died from a gunshot wound to the back, cuts to the neck and blunt trauma to the head, according to autopsy findings. The report, completed Friday at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Raleigh and received Wednesday by The High Point Enterprise, indicates 45-year-old Joyce Price Eaton suffered a brutal attack.
Landscapers found the womans body on the side of AT&T Drive. She had been shot in the back from close range, the autopsy said, with the bullet destroying organs as it passed through her body and exited her chest. Investigators also found other trauma, including two incisions to Eatons neck, one a large wound of the right side of her neck and jugular vein, leading to blood loss. Eaton also had several lacerations and contusions to her head, the report said. A tooth was broken and a thumbnail missing.
The mother of five was discovered in a wet, dirty and blood-stained long-sleeve shirt, a Verizon logo on the arm. Police determined she last had been seen alive about 8:45 p.m. June 11 at her job at Verizon Wireless in the Alamance Crossing Shopping Center in Burlington. Her body was found about 30 miles from there, and her car about 20 miles in the opposite direction. Eatons 2007 BMW, its interior bloody, was located June 13 on W. Ten Road in Hillsborough.

Police arrested Anthony Clay Campbell, 53, of Mocksville on Tuesday in connection with the homicide of Eaton, 45. Police say Eaton had a relationship with Campbell, also known as Tony. Eaton and her husband were separated, police said, and she lived alone with her four youngest children.
The investigation shows Tony was one of the last people Eaton spoke to the night of her disappearance, police said. His phone records indicate he was in the area of her work at the time she left and at the place her body was found. Eatons white 2007 BMW was found in Hillsborough off West Ten Road on Friday, police said, and Tonys phone records show evidence he was there on the evening of June 11, the day she was last seen alive...
Campbell is self-employed as a consultant, Guilford County Sheriff BJ Barnes said. He lives with his wife and has three children, police said. He remained in the Greensboro Guilford County jail on Wednesday without bond.

Love, greed and deceit caused this, Guilford County Sheriff B.J. Barnes said. The pair had been in a relationship for a few months, and Barnes said Eaton was killed, in part, over lies about money, although he declined to elaborate at a news conference Wednesday...
Campbell and Eatons relationship was initially about business but turned personal, said Capt. Tony Caliendo of the Guilford County Sheriffs Office. At the time of her death, Eaton was separated from her husband, Dairus Billy Eaton Jr. She met Campbell when he was in a business venture with her husband, Caliendo said. That venture no longer exists.
Barnes said Campbell is an independent entrepreneur but did not describe his work. According to federal court documents, Campbell filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy twice in 2013. Both times the action was dismissed for failure to obtain credit counseling. Campbell listed no income or unemployment compensation in the document filings.
Rumor has it, there may have been a life insurance policy involved.
