It doesn't appear to be a trial if the article (linked below) posted on Jul 19, 2018, by the local news in Jacksonville is still accurate.

It could be that the Sup. Court dates are for setting a concrete trial date -- the Court principals, Judge, ADAs, Defense Council, Courtroom, etc. must have their calendars blocked for probably several weeks for jury selection, trial, etc., etc.
Further, this is a Death Penalty case, and both the ADA and the defense attorney(s) must be DP-qualified to prosecute and defend. Onslow County is relatively small -- the population is approx 178,000.
We'll have to wait and see.

Aldophus Lee Kimrey II, 32, is scheduled to begin trial next September - but it may take several weeks before a verdict is reached.

A projected trial date has been set for the man charged in the death of 3-year-old Mariah Woods.
Adolphus Earl Kimrey II, 32, is scheduled for trial in September 2019, District Attorney Ernie Lee told The Daily News Thursday. An autopsy report from the N.C. State Medical Examiner’s office released Wednesday revealed Mariah’s cause of death as chloroform toxicity.

He is scheduled to begin trial next September, but it may take several weeks before a verdict is reached since the prosecution will be seeking the death penalty. Lee said capital trials can last up to four weeks, sometimes longer.

And Kimrey is not the only upcoming murder trial in Onslow County - Lee said 21 other murder cases are currently pending. Overall, the district attorney’s office is dealing with a caseload of more than 3,500 pending cases in Onslow County Superior Court.

4/18/19 There are two options for the Superior Court for this date; the AM session and the PM session.

It's listed under the AM session, on page 8.

If this isn't his trial is this some sort of pre trial hearing? Really unfamiliar with the court system or how to properly look things up as I don't often follow cases closely through the trial portions.

Here's another article which mentions Kimbrey briefly. It's about how backlogged the county is, and how few attorneys are there to handle murder cases, especially capital murder cases:

Earl Kimrey among murder trials scheduled for 2019

[...]
The second capital murder trial scheduled for this year is Aldolphus Earl Kimrey II, who was charged with the killing of 3-year-old Mariah Woods. Kimrey was the live-in-boyfriend of Mariah’s mother, Kristy Kay Woods, in Verona at the time of her death. She was reported missing on Nov. 27, 2017 and captured the audience of the nation as a search party was deployed to look for the missing girl. Authorities searched for five days before she was found in nearby Shelter Creek on Dec. 2, 2017; the Daily News previously reported.

Kimrey’s trial is tentatively set for September, although Lee said there may be more motions filed in the case before Kimrey makes it to trial. However, Kimrey has been moving quickly through the court system. He was charged with first-degree murder in Woods’ death on Jan. 24, 2018 and indicted on Feb. 13, 2018.

Kimrey is being represented by attorneys Walter Paramore and Brooke Mangum. Lee is assigned the prosecutor of the case, alongside ADA Michael Maultsby. He said Paramore and many of the other defense attorneys are also bogged down with the number of cases because only so many lawyers are approved to represent defendants in murder cases.

I have September 9 as trial date. I could easily be wrong though.
Yes, that's what we're seeing at this time -- this is a Big One, so who knoze if it will be in September. It sounds like the principals are behind the 8-ball with murders in Onslow County, due to a lack of attorneys who are qualified to handle these types of trials.
So we wait... We who are so good at it due to the prior experiences we've had with these bad ones. :(

Thanks, Niner, for the info above -- essentially what we thought -- pre-trial stuff.

We'll have to keep checking this one to see if the trial will actually start in Sept. It's a DP case, so the judge usually gives the principals plenty of time, as we know , and it appears to me that that is what the judge has done.

I found this article which has some general info and it includes a link to the actual autopsy report for those who want to see it.

The autopsy for 3-year-old Mariah Woods, a girl who stole the nation’s heart in November during a week-long search, has been released.
Her cause of death is listed as chloroform toxicity, according to the report.
“There were no surprises,” said Onslow County Sheriff Hans Miller, who received the report Wednesday. “With the autopsy, that is one additional piece of evidence that we needed.”

Hi, Niner! ;)
Yes, I can get into the NC docket because I am in NC and have used it many times! No prob :D
Kimrey no longer has a September, 2019, date on the docket for NC courts. I think it might be because it is now a Death Penalty case.
Here's and old MSM article that talks about Kimrey (and other
felony cases in NC), and the article does mention that it is a DP trial, and it says the September date might be moved -- and apparently it has been since it is no longer there for September. It's worth a read, IMO.

His speeding ticket is still hangin' out there though. SMH

In general, there aren’t enough attorneys to go around for each pending murder case, he said. Of the handful of attorneys in Onslow able to try murder cases, one of them has six in Onslow County alone. And most attorneys qualified to represent in murders practice in more than one county, Lee added.

No trial yet, but Mariah should be getting ready to start kindergarten...
Yes, Peppery, you're right. She'd be one of the prettiest little girls there -- she'd come home and talk, talk, talk about what she did that day. SMH. Or, she might clam-up because "he" was still there. But there is none of that for her now -- only for him to endure.
Here's hoping her alleged killer will have many, many more days of worry, fear, sleepless nights, and pain than she did in her short little life.

@borndem - oh you shouldn't have said that - about getting into NC court sites. I have a few other cases that I will now be calling upon you to help me! LOL! :D

and unfortunately, I can't access that last article link you posted - banned in the EU....
