New here and found you first with the Taylor Wright thread as she was a friend of mine. Excellent work to all of you sleuthers!

Wanted to provide a little info re Medical Examiner in this area. There isn’t a labeled ME vehicle like in other areas. Pediatric forensic cases would be sent to a different county for exam, and if called to the scene, the ME would arrive in a personal vehicle. Also, ME cases are transported via ambulance here.

Welcome! And thank you for the info!

I heard the PC yesterday and this wasn't brought up at all, so no we more likely assumed in our own minds that they don't have to go far to find Mariah or who committed this crime.....

Exactly. We assumed. So, IMO, for me, it didn’t serve any purpose. That’s just my opinion. We don’t have to share it.

Do they need to have a "body" for the DP in NC? I mean, they could strongly suspect the bf and perhaps have enough circumstantial evidence but no body. I'm tending to believe they haven't found her yet because asking people to look for her on their properties after she's already been found would be cruel on LE part. Just speculation - just opinion.

And ... we don’t buy the story/timeline.

What WE think isn't as important as what LE knows, but yes we are all coming to our own conclusions based on previous cases that are similar to this one...... But it was never stated before today in the PC about having this focused search so close to Mariah's home....

Have they Checked the landfills where garbage is taken? If they took away a garbage can away on Monday, after the garbage was taken away I would think that would be a place of interest to look. For evidence,or for Her little body.

I’m thinking with a prepared statement and the sheer number of times ‘citizens’ was mentioned - way over the top especially in a prepared statement - few of those fbi behavioural specialist from the CARD team have been at play, attempting some kind of subconscious appeal to specific people they think are holding back info.

The language & delivery of the statement seems abnormally dumbed down too. The whole search your local area that you’re familiar with, even if it’s not close by, for anything unusual, seems odd. Re-appealing for family specifically, I think they possibly suspect some reluctant involvement from others. The line from yesterday’s presser about keeping ‘open minds’ seemed like a bit of an offer for amnesty.

I am totally aware I’m a sucker for reading way too much into things.

‘We’ was in reference to LE not buying the timeline, not a royal websleuths we :)

I wholeheartedly agree. Mariah was always beautifully dressed and meticulously groomed. The Mom was so very active in all the pictures with her children. They don't look or act (at least on fb) like drug addicts, IMHO. I sure could be wrong, but I was thinking about the little girl years ago now, in TX, I believe, who disappeared. Can't recall if she got out of the house or if the monster came in and got her while they slept, but they found her handprint INSIDE his camper trailer and later found her little body in the dump. He was a well to do engineer and their trusted neighbor, as I recall. Can't remember her name. You never know who could be watching your children, that's for sure. Praying they find her soon.

I agree, but social media isn't always all it seems to be. Look at Caylee Anthony...sane deal, always dressed nice, smiling in all her pics, etc.

Did it seem like the question (of where the mother was) catch him off guard? The live stream kept breaking up on me when I was watching and what I could see seemed like time fillers. He is definitely not good at public speaking. Hopefully he excels in other areas. I'm appreciating all opinions and speculations on how odd this PC was because I feel it was very odd.

I'd love to know the whole truth and nothing but the truth about the "suitcase." Did mom borrow one from a neighbor? Did she return it?

She just turned 3, and while she should have been to the dentist by now, I'd be very surprised to find out she has been. JMO

Chances are there are x rays of her foot/ankle that they could possibly make comparisons with, though IDK if that would be acceptable for ID purposes.

the word "supervise" your children from the press conference left me going hmmm....
Do they think it was an accident and then they covered it up? Was she left unsupervised and died as a result?

Did anyone notice mom shaking her head no while saying she would do anything to have Mariah found?
Trying to be fair but can't help thinking she knows where Mariah is.
IMO

I don't know for sure, but I would expect identification to be preliminary at the beginning and based on appearance -- approx 3-yr old female found in x clothing and with blond/brown hair, and then ask the parents to identify any clothing found with the body. Ask for dental records and use them for confirmation of ID, and failing that, then it would probably go to DNA for identity, which could take weeks or months. I can't see them asking a parent/relative to go in to ID a body (if one is found). I don't know how often a relative does get asked to go in for ID confirmation in real life, but I've never heard of a missing/deceased person in these circumstances ID'd that way?

What often happens is that LE will report that a body has been found and next of kin notified of the find, but no confirmation of ID. At a later point they would likely say that the identity is likely to be the missing person based on something like clothing being consistent with what the misper was wearing at the time they disappeared. But official ID often has to wait if it can't be confirmed during autopsy.

Maybe a stupid question, but at this point if Mariah is deceased her face should still be recognizable. Would that not be enough to make a positive id?

That was David Westerfeld and it happened in CA. Supposedly little Danielle's Van(something) parents were swingers and this guy managed to tip toe past all the guests in their house, past their dog, and snatched Danielle from her bedroom.

I'll never forget the case because it was the first time where I think he didn't do it but there was a whole lot of circumstantial evidence...

And the trotting out of NCIS - he didn’t speak did he? More a psychological show of force/resources maybe?

LE showed up at the house long before any garbage trucks would be on the road, so I don't think any garbage was taken once the police arrived early Monday morning....

Haven't been able to catch up since about 20 minutes prior to presser. A quick skim shows that there was really nothing new released? Is that correct? What was the point of the presser?
