The discovery of human remains in northwestern Stokes County is believed to have solved a mystery surrounding the whereabouts of a woman who went missing from Surry County in 2018, Sarah Ashley Hill.
Various media accounts in the area say the discovery occurred Tuesday in the yard of a vacant home in the 1700 block of Asbury Road in the Westfield community, and there were strong indications Thursday that the remains are those of Hill.
The Surry Sheriff’s Office spokesman further refused to say if authorities are working based on this theory, while promising that more details would emerge in addition to those already made public.
“I do know there will be a press release coming out,” Hudson said.
Authorities in Patrick County, Virginia, also have been heavily involved in the investigation from the onset due to the missing woman having an address there, and Patrick Sheriff Dan Smith provided a hint Thursday of what that official announcement will contain.
“This is a sad outcome, our prayers are with Sara’s (Sarah’s) family, and my office stands ready to assist North Carolina authorities in any way we can,” Smith stated.
