Leland Police have new information, ask public’s help to find woman missing for 23 years
Tammy Kay Ferguson was a resident of the now-destroyed Leland Mobile Home Park, located at what is now 114 Old Fayetteville Road. She moved to the area with her husband Benny; the couple came from Alabama following construction work.
Ferguson worked for some time as a house keeper at the Town and Country Motel, which was located in Belville and operated until 2006 when it burned down.
It is not known exactly Ferguson was last seen. The last known conversation she had was a phone call to her mother, who told police Ferguson had said she was waiting on a disability check and planned to return to Alabama. It is possible that Ferguson made the call from a payphone at a gas station on the corner of South Navassa Road and Village road; according to police files, Ferguson used the phone frequently.
Ferguson had two tattoos on her upper left arm. One tattoo was described as a red rose with the name ‘Tonya,’ and the second tattoo was a skull with the name ‘Joshua.’ She had a few tattoos above her breast and on the back shoulder but the description was unknown.
