NE NE - Chance Englebert, 25, Gering, 6 July 2019 (new father) #2

I am from the NE part of South Dakota and I saw a pickup this past weekend with a missing sign for Chance posted on the driver's side. Let's keep looking!

- Did LE ever find the driver of the White Jeep the video shows Chance talking to?
- Have subsequent searches been done on the general path he was walking??

In two days it will be 3 years since Chance Englebert “walked away” from his wife’s grandparents’ home in Gering, NE and disappeared in the middle of the small city of Scottsbluff, NE - not in a forest, swampland, mountainous district, or open prairie. In the middle of a populated small city. He was last captured on a Ring camera at 8:01pm. 67 short minutes later an un-Chance-like text message was sent from his phone to his “aunt Katy”. Less than 8 minutes later, his phone sent its last ping and data from an area less than 2 miles from where he was last seen on video. Vanished without a trace.

Searches of the area have turned up nothing - no clothing, no phone, no hat, no boots, no rodeo belt buckle - nothing. The shallow North Platte River that runs through town - and clear as a bell on most days - has been searched for miles. Local lakes (ponds) have been sonared. Nothing…

A body does NOT disappear itself! Someone knows something! Someone saw something! It is past time for someone to come forward and say something. A great deal of time and effort have been expended by hundreds of people in the search for Chance - wasted time and effort because somebody has known all along exactly what happened on July 6, 2019. A lot of money has been spent in pursuit of the facts - the truth - someone has known since day one. Too many tears have been cried. Too much pain has been endured by Chance’s family and friends. And yet someone remains silent, thinking this will all fade away like Chance did.

Someone is wrong! We will never forget - we will never stop searching - we will never stop pursuing truth and justice!!

This might be a dumb question but could he have gotten a ride with someone and could there have been an accident where the vehicle went into a body of water? I don’t know if he would have been near water that could conceal a car. If someone was driving in the direction he needed to go in or to get out of a storm could another person be missing but not linked to the area? This is probably a crazy speculation.
A guy that went missing in the town I grew up in was just found in his car in a river. People thought he was either murdered or ran off. He had diabetes I think and his blood sugar level made him confused and it was a terrible accident. There have been other cases that involve water and cars. I don’t know if this applies to Chance at all.
I could see getting into a car going in whatever direction if there was a bad storm. Even if you just need to get to a gas station or diner to wait for a ride. He could have met with foul play. Men tend to over estimate their safety around strangers or walking alone.

Just a bump for Chance. This case really bothers me because it reinforces the sad cliches about small town secrets. What is it going to take for people to start talking and be transparent about what happened the day Chance disappeared?

Nearly four years after the disappearance of a Wyoming man during a visit to Gering, his family continues to wait for answers. Dec. 2 will mark the birthday of Chance Englebert, and his grandma hopes it will be the last without knowing the fate of the young man who has been missing since July 6, 2019.

In recognition of Chance's 29th birthday, his maternal grandmother, Linda Kluender, is making a dramatic effort to increase the reward offered for information in the case. Kluender has donated $200,000 to the reward fund, which has now grown to $220,000.

I just read this in today's local news, and I was going to post this, but you're already on top of it. Thank you for not forgetting this case.

Chance Englebert

Chance Englebert, 25, his wife, Baylee, and their newborn son, were visiting Baylee’s family in Gering, Nebraska on July 6, 2019, when he disappeared. According to Baylee, Chance was out golfing with some of her family when there was a misunderstanding and he called her to pick him up. On the way back to the house, he got out of the car and walked away. He never returned. Baylee told Dateline that when she last spoke to Chance, around 7:46 p.m. he told her he was walking south, but she added he had also contacted friends and said he was walking north toward Torrington, Wyoming. Baylee said the last time anyone heard from Chance was about 8:46 p.m. His phone either died or was turned off shortly afterwards. Chief George Holthus of the Gering Police Department told Dateline in 2018 that search efforts by the Scottsbluff and Gering Police Departments covered at least 2,400 acres, along with Air Link which logged 280 miles and the Nebraska State Patrol helicopter which logged 100 miles. Chance was last seen wearing a short sleeve button-up Wrangler shirt, dark blue Wrangler jeans, roper-style boots and a black and white trucker hat. He is 5’9”, with a medium build and has sun-lightened brown hair. According to a post on the 'Help Find Chance Englebert' Facebook page, a $220,000 reward is being offered by Chance’s grandmother, Linda Kluender, his mother, Dawn Englebert, and the Help Find Chance Englebert organization for anyone who gives information leading the to arrest and conviction of any suspect(s) involved in Chance’s disappearance. Gering Police Department investigator Brian Eads told Dateline that they are still accepting tips related to Chance’s disappearance and asks anyone with information to contact the Gering Police Department at (308) 436-5089. They may also contact the Scottsbluff Police Department at (308) 630-6261.

Chance Englebert
  • Gering, Nebraska
  • Went Missing: July 2019
  • Status: Pending
Chance Englebert, 25, vanished during a 2019 July Fourth trip to visit family in Gering, Nebraska. He was golfing with his wife’s family when he got upset over comments made about his new job. His wife, Baylee Englebert, picked him up and drove him back to her grandparents’ house, but he got out of the car and started walking away. Surveillance footage obtained by NewsNation shows Englebert walking through Gering around 7:50 p.m. the night he left Baylee in the car. In the video, he can be seen looking at his phone and taking a 90-degree turn to the left, as if he was following a map.

In recognition of Englebert’s 29th birthday, his maternal grandmother increased the reward offer for information to $220,000, according to the Star-Herald. A cowboy at heart, Englebert was known for his love of his family and his ranch, Englebert’s grandmother said in the newspaper.

Anyone with information about Chance Englebert’s disappearance can call the Gering Police Department at 308-436-6667.

There is so much about this case that is troublesome; most especially queries made/things said shortly after his disappearance.

That said, finding someone outdoors is extremely difficult, even with the use of technology, and highly skilled trackers.

Will we ever find Chase? Yes, I believe we will; it’s just a matter of time.

Amateur opinion and speculation

It is documented widely there is only 1 person who on record has given any statements regarding the moment Chance walked off; his widow Baylee Bewley Englebert. There are no other persons who have ever made any statements about her arrival at the golf course, her ride with victim back to her grandparents house, or him walking off.
These documented statements, as well as others, are conflicting.

Following the potential theory of foul play~
If he walked off he would have been quite upset, but it seems there would need to be a larger underlying issue if it escalated to the point of homicidal violence, then body is disposed of/hidden.

IMO there are 3 plausible possible foul play theories~
1) Family homicidal violence, disposal of body.
2) Robbers found him, possibly targeted for mugging, grabbed him off the road beyond where cams would be, robbed him, killed him, disposed of him somewhere.
3) Human Trafficking

I lean with family violence because of the lack of family involvement after disappearance, widow never allowing the child to be involved with victim’s family, conflicting statements by wife who is only one besides victim with true nature of the days events leading up to CE walking off, wife’s family are long term residents of area he vanished from providing means for successful hiding of body, documented family conflicts on the day of disappearance.
However, imo, there must be a much larger underlying issue of conflict escalation if he met the type of foul play that would cause him to completely vanish.

What are your thoughts on what kind of issues could/would escalate anger in someone or group of family members against someone, to the point of homicidal violence?
What are your thoughts regarding foul play theory 2?
