Mayushi V. Bhagat, 24
Jersey City, NJ
Last seen April 29th, 2019

Police are looking for a 24-year-old woman missing for nearly two weeks.

Mayushi V. Bhagat was last seen at her home on Monday, April 29. She attends school in New York City and could possibly be in that area or in the South Plainfield area where she has friends, according to police.

Bhageat was described by police as an Asian woman with a light complexion who stands 5 feet, 10" tall and weighs between 150 and 160 pounds with brown eyes and black hair. She was last seen wearing colorful pants and a black t-shirt.

Anyone with any information is asked to call Jersey City Police at (201) 547-5427.
Jersey City Police Seek Missing 24-Year-Old Student

She is still missing. An excellent article about her life, her disappearance, and with information from her father:

A baffling disappearance of 24-year-old Mayushi Bhagat from Jersey City – hi INDiA

“I just do not understand why she would not contact us at all after so many weeks. She was very happy with her life. She had secured an excellent job in California with a company that had agreed to file her H1B visa,” he said.

Mayushi came to America in 2016 on the F1 student visa to pursue a post-graduate degree in electronics engineering. “She is a bright student who always scored well,” Vikas Bhagat said. With a job secured in the tech sector in California her future seemed promising.

For some reason though, Mayushi’s name does not figure on the New Jersey State Police missing persons’ list.

The whole article is very informative, but I'm trying to stay in the 10% quoting rule! It is worth reading. I hope she can be found soon.

Thank you for finding that, @MrsWatson! There were some new details:

"Details of Disappearance
Bhagat was heard from May 1, 2019. She lived with her parents in Jersey City, New Jersey. Her father had contact with her by text message in the early morning hours; Bhagat's texts said she was fine and did not want to be bothered, and that she would return home on May 3. She never did, however, and has never been heard from again.

Bhagat's family does not think she actually sent the texts originating from her phone. The texts were written in poor English, and her English was fluent.

She was born in Vadodara, Gujarat, India and moved to the United States in 2016 to further her education. She studied for a few months at the University of New Hampshire, then transferred to the New York Institute of Technology in New York City. She had nearly completed her coursework for a master's degree in electrical engineering, and had already secured a job in California that she was supposed to start after she graduated.

Because Bhagat has friends in South Plainfield, New Jersey, it's possible she may be in that area. She is considered missing under suspicious circumstances and her case remains unsolved."
It has been over one year that Mayushi has been missing. Her parents must be heartbroken.

She was going to start a good job in California with a company that was going to file her visa. Her family says the texts they received were not from her because she speaks fluent English and the messages were in poor English. Did someone get upset or jealous about her opportunity and harm her?

Bumping up for Mayushi.

Speculation: she came into contact with someone she knew, perhaps just an acquaintance, but that person decided to victimize her somehow. I speculate they weren't a stranger because they knew to text her father. I think there is a dangerous person out there who needs to be caught.

She lived with her parents but was out in the early morning hours. Was she working an early shift? Socializing? Who could she have been with that time of day?

I hope LE is still working on this case.

Mayushi has been added to the Missing Persons page on the FBI website, according to a press release:

The Newark Division, today, added 28-year-old Mayushi Bhagat to the list of Missing Persons on its webpage, announced FBI Special Agent in Charge James E. Dennehy. Bhagat was last seen on April 29, 2019, leaving her apartment in Jersey City, New Jersey. She was wearing colorful pajama pants and a black t-shirt. Her family reported her missing on May 1, 2019.

Bhagat is 28 years old, 5’10” tall, medium build (150-160 pounds), with black hair and brown eyes. She came to the United States in 2016 on an F1 Student Visa. She was enrolled at the University of New Hampshire and then the New York Institute of Technology (NJIT).

Just seeing this for the first time. I do not think this was due to anyone she knew. She was an Indian that was new to the US. Most Indians just socialize with other Indians the first few years in the US, especially those in tech. The most probable outcome is that she was robbed by a stranger. Either in South Plainfield or western Jersey City. I would be curious as to what part of JC she lived in and was last seen in.
