Newark police are asking the public's help locating a 28-year-old city woman who disappeared last month.

Venika Williams was last seen Dec. 22 in the 100 block of Dayton Street. She was heading to Jersey City.

Williams weighs 142 lbs., is 5'3" and was wearing a black coat, blue jeans and red sneakers. She was carrying a red purse and has a tattoo on her left hand that reads "Tanesha".

Anyone with information is asked to call the department's 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS(1-877-695-8477) or the Newark Police Special Victims Unit at (973) 733-7273.

NamUs #17575. Black female, within age range, height and weight match, and the location is a spot-on hit. The time of death and the disappearance date overlay. Tattoos don't match though but worth a look I think.

I always thought that UP17575 should be ruled out. It's not a perfect match by profiles but it's really close. I argued that they should be looked out when this case first came out. The UP was found dead in water about 1 mile from Venika's last-known location. Also, the dates could match up as it's not clear how long the UP had been dead. They match for height and weight good enough. They match for race and sex for sure. The hair didn't match but hair length isn't rule out, especially when a UP is found decomposed in water. Same with tattoos not matching because artist's renditions from decomposed remains that were in water aren't going to be a perfect thing. I remember talking to Facebook group administrators for this MP and they didn't like my guess but wouldn't say why. I know less-plausible rule-outs have been done in some cases.

Has anyone seen any screen shots of the text she sent saying she was being held against her will? I'm not at all saying it's not true I just find it odd that police haven't included this info in any of their statements (that I could find anyway). That statement has only come from friends and family I believe. Also, no one seems to know who she was traveling with the day she went missing. A lot of info seems to be being left out...

Details of Disappearance
Williams was last seen in Newark, New Jersey on December 22, 2017. She was going to go to Jersey City, New Jersey for an appointment to style someone's hair, but it's unclear if she ever arrived there. In the last text she sent her family, she said she was in Jersey City and being held against her will by a man. She has never been heard from again.

Williams left behind four children. She worked out of her home on Dewey Street in Newark as a hairstylist at the time of her disappearance. Few details are available in her case.
