The Vanished Podcast just released an episode about William's disappearance. Episode 2 will be released tomorrow.

March 26, 1981, was just an ordinary day for 33-year-old William Jamison. He went to work at Haug Die Casting Company in Kenilworth, NJ, where he was the vice president of production. After work, Bill went to a restaurant for dinner. Bill’s next stop was the Chez Lounge inside Linden Lanes Bowling Alley in Linden, NJ. After spending several hours enjoying drinks and good conversation with friends and acquaintances, Bill left and stopped at the St. George Diner in Linden for a quick late-night meal. He arrived around 1 AM and left about 30 minutes later. That’s the last time that anyone ever saw Bill Jamison. It was like he had vanished into the night. Bill’s coworkers were immediately concerned when he didn’t show up at 8 AM as he usually did. One coworker went over to Bill’s apartment, but Bill wasn’t there. They decided it was time to contact Bill’s sister, Katie. Katie jumped into action. She contacted law enforcement and began calling all the hospitals in the area. More than 41 years later, Bill’s family is still looking for answers. This is a mysterious story that goes in many unexpected directions, from sightings of Bill several states away to the theory that this was a mob hit.

I think it is very weird that the company vehicle has never been located after all this time. So have there been any efforts to check waterways in the area? Could the vehicle be hidden in a storage space or barn somewhere? So sad.

The first part of Bill's story on the Vanished podcast was posted here back in 2022 when it was released. Here are the second and third parts as well:

I'd be looking in the water, for sure.

MOO

I've spent the last couple of evenings listening to all of the episodes of Bill's story from the Vanished podcast, and I'm amazed he still hasn't been found despite how determined his siblings have been in searching for him and keeping his story alive. I wish all missing people had such a fiercely determined group of people behind them.

The parts of the story about mob hits and potential homicide motives were interesting, if a bit far-fetched. I had to go back and listen to the third episode a second time because the opinion of Richard Walter, the so-called criminal profiler, sounded so ridiculous to me that I thought I must not have been paying proper attention and needed to hear it again to understand. No, it was just as bizarre the second time. Then I did some googling and figured out the likely reason for that. Richard Walter was nothing but a charlatan whose qualifications as a 'criminal profiler' appear to have been completely fanciful and fabricated. Once it seemed obvious I could completely discount his theory that Bill had been murdered by a colleague or some such nonsense, there was one glaringly obvious solution, as there so often is in the case of a person who goes missing in their vehicle: he's in the water. And that, sadly, seems to be the one avenue his siblings have explored the least. Most likely because there was no water between his apartment and his last stop of the night, the St. George Diner.

I think we can completely discount the idea that he left the area on his own to go start a new life somewhere else. No one runs off to start a new life with their company car that is sure to be quickly reported stolen. Getting arrested for grand theft auto would probably put a damper on your plans unless you want your new life to be that of a prison inmate. Likewise, no one up and leaves to start a new life without taking any money or belongings, including a large income tax refund that was left sitting in his mailbox at the apartment building.

I don't believe for a minute that he was important enough to be the target of a mob hit, and no random gang banger or angry bar patron is going to bother disposing of your vehicle if they kill you in a random act of violence or fit of passion.

The simplest explanation, I think, is that the statement the person at the restaurant made to him that night (paraphrasing - 'why are you sitting around here? Go find a woman and spend time with her') got under his skin and he decided to do just that. He left and went to the Chez Lounge, where he tried to pick up a female patron and she turned him down. So he left and went to the diner. Why go to the diner for another meal when he'd already had dinner? I think he wanted some more food in his stomach to help sober himself up so he could drive further than the short distance back to his apartment. His sister learned through his phone records that he had a history of calling escort services, so he was clearly no stranger to keeping company with sex workers. He didn't intend to drive straight home when he left the diner; he intended to drive somewhere that he could find some companionship for the rest of the evening. At some point on his drive to wherever that was, he lost control of his vehicle and went into the water.

We also learned in the podcast that he had a history of motor vehicle accidents while he was drinking. He once hit five parked cars, and once drove right into a canal in Florida. If that's not foreshadowing, I don't know what is.

The only thing I don't know is where he would have gone to find company that night. The obvious answer is New York City, but those are some pretty big bridges to drive off without being seen. He might have had a regular lady he kept company with who lived in a different direction. There's quite a bit of water around once you get out of the immediate neighborhood where he lived.

IMO, MOO, etc., etc.
