Case History: Geologists surveying a desert wash area discovered numerous skeletal remains scattered over an area of 50 yards. Due to the condition of the remains, it was estimated that they had been out there for several years (suggested 1986 or earlier). A pair of female style glasses and a small, yellow metal crucifix was found in the area of the remains (photos available in the Images section).​

Months before the postcard, Paulette left Iowa to move out west to California, with her then boyfriend <Name known but not posting it here) <Name> is an African American male. <Name> also was know to have been abusive towards Paulette. The family has never heard from either of them again and
fears that Paulette was murdered.

The family is in the process of adding her to Namus.

The recovery of a crucifix with the remains may also point towards this individual as the victim.

Many native tribes from both Minnesota and other parts of the upper Midwest (Winnebagos in Nebraska) had early and long contact with French 'Voyageurs' explorers and Catholic missionaries.

This has resulted in many members of the tribes, perhaps even a majority, being Catholic today. Crucifixes (crosses with the body of Christ) are more likely to be worn by Catholics than by Protestants.

This was my first thought too. I’m just shy of 5’3” and weigh between 95-105 lbs. I’ve always been skinny but I have never seen a waist of 22-23. That is tiny.

wondering...Could you possibly wear them using a rope, string, belt, etc. to fasten them rather than button, snap, zipper, etc.? I'd never ever be able to answer that--I think my baby pampers were bigger than those. I'll ask mom.

How many months before the postcard arrived did she leave Iowa? I may have missed it but has it been comfirmed that she is in fact the person who sent the card?

Did she know anyone else in Vegas, Cali., or other locations besides Iowa? Did she mention anyone or any where else she'd been or planned to go? What kind of work was she looking for or was involved in (e.g., modeling, acting, service industry, sex trade, travel agent)? Any location interests besides the BFs area that she would have been trying to traveling toward?

Just trying to see where else we might can search for her to help rule her and this UID in or out.

At her smallest, Marilyn Monroe had a waist circumference of 22"-23" so not entirely implausible. We don't know exactly how the waist measurement was taken so it could also be considered she was very large and the 22"-23" measurement is measuring the waist across and the circumference was 42"-46".

I know it's possible to have a small waist like that. But it's unsual enough that it might be mentioned in a missing persons report.

That's a good thought about it meaning the horizontal measure, not the circumference.

Here are three ladies we might consider based on their locations, descriptions, circumstances, and glasses. None make mention of previous childbirth or a wired jaw but they went missing between 1980-1982 while this UID is estimated to have died sometime between 1984 - 1986. I suppose she could have given birth (or late term pregnancy) and had a broken jaw repaired after going missing, right?

EDITED TO CLARIFY-I mean "right?" as in how long does it take for a wired jaw to heal? I'm not familiar with broken jaws, thankfully.

Circumstances of Disappearance
Riffin was last seen on September 13, 1982 in New Mexico, where she was living at the time. At the time of her disappearance she was on a brief vacation in the mountains, from her job in a restaurant in Ruidoso, New Mexico. State police found her car locked, stuck in a ditch and abandoned on a roadside September 21, 1982, a short distance from Highway 3, between Mora and Tres Ritos in New Mexico. Inside were some clothing, painting materials and some paintings Riffin had done of the New Mexico landscape.

The only thing missing from the vehicle was Riffin's purse. There was no evidence of foul play in the vehicle. A woman at a gas station ten miles from where Riffin's car was found believes she saw her shortly after her disappearance. According to the witness, Riffin appeared to be alone and requested assistance. She has not been seen since. Her bank account and credit cards have not been used since her disappearance.

Her parents in Montclair, Essex County, New Jersey reported her disappearance to police; Montclair authorities are investigating Riffin's case although she lived in New Mexico and disappeared from there. Riffin was graduated from William and Mary College in Williamsburg, Virginia. She had been an anthropology major who had lived on and off at home since graduation. She had once worked as a volunteer in Peru. She had had a few articles published in Israel, where she had lived for a while, and she also wrote poetry.

This is probably just a coincidence considering the prospective age range of the decent, but the glasses found seem similar to the pair of glasses that Shantelle Hudson (MP6195) wore. I think the right pair looks extremely similar.

She's the right height, but her age (16) and ethnicity is off (she's indigenous). The date of her disappearance is also after the prospective PMI and she disappeared about 8 hours away, which is quite far.
