They want 'severance' for the defendants. This is Beasley's attorney, and no doubt, they don't want the victim's mother in court with him every day, telling what he did.

They want to throw out some of the incriminating google searches---can't wait to hear what he googled.

They are extremely worried about the jury composition. They want as many African Americans as possible---AS IF they would be more sympathetic to him killing a 3 yr old baby? They are going to go with the racial angle here---'the cops hate me out of prejudice' so they need jurors who'd sympathise

They also want to prevent the state from doing 'background checks' on the potential jurors---does that mean they want some with past criminal history on the panel so they won't judge him as harshly?
