The case is explosive, not just for its tabloid-ready details, but because it comes at the same time as a broader federal investigation of the Suffolk County political machine and its hold over the local criminal justice system.

The tentacles of the perverseness of justice run so deep now, it boggles the mind. Would not doubt this story pales in comparison to other stories. Jmo.

I've been lurking in the LISK forums for a couple of years. I'm not local there and the case seems to be way over my head, but one poster has been talking about LE corruption and this case for a long time. I guess he/she knew what they were talking about.

That I am aware, there is no thread on the 1979 murder of John Pius. If, however, you do a web search, you can find various articles/discussions. Here's a decent article that gives an overview of that tragic case.

    Are the following accurate?

    1) At the time of the killing the future police chief was "low-level burglar and drug dealer". http://www.rollingstone.com/culture...island-serial-killer-case-been-solved-w453872

    2) The boy was killed and the future police chief testified as a witness to the murder.

    3) The accused produced confessions that may have been coerced.

    4) Aside from the questionnable confessions, and the testimony of the drug dealer burglar future police chief, there does not seem to be much evidence against the accused.

    5) A high level official who was involved in prosecuting the case, Thomas Spota, mentored the witness into progressing from drug dealer burglar to police chief.

    ?

So the question is would there have been any indications of another suspect in this case? Is the rocks in the mouth consistent with a killing done by kids? Is there any significance to the fact that the boy's father found the body?

definitely one of the most interesting links http://www.asmallvictory.net/archives/002066.html almost bizarre that it has not been posted more https://www.google.com/search?q="asmallvictory.net/archives/002066.html"
