NY NY - Irondequoit, WhtFem 14-23, 122UFNY, skeletal in shallow grave, front teeth overlap, Jul'88

I called this afternoon and unfortunately no one answered at the Criminal Investigations Unit, but I did leave a lengthy message..so I know we're going into the weekend now, but hopefully we get a call back! I have in my notes to make sure to ask about using fg..it does seem that would be way more efficient than these carbon and mineral tests.
It would be great to get IJD featured in DNASolves. I'd donate to it and request that my friends donate also. She was found only a few miles from where I live and this case has always bothered me.

Could someone call the people in charge of this case and suggest DNASolves? seeing your work, they could help the case.

Just spoke to the Sgt - he couldn't tell me much because I'm not law enforcement. But he did direct me to a recent town board meeting, from 3/15, in which the town authorized payment for further genealogy testing for IJD. Upon reading the summary, the PD is using the resources of NCMEC to upload a DNA profile to GEDmatch and Family Tree DNA (FTDNA). And he said now they/we just wait for our place in line for this to all happen. Gave no indication what that looks like - we know how long anything DNA related takes with other cases. I inquired about DNASolves, and he had just said they are working with a company on it, which I gather is the info provided in the summary of the meeting w/NCMEC, etc.

Found it. It's a public document, so I assume it's within ToS to post the information provided in it (bbm):
WHEREAS, the Irondequoit Police Department would like to use the resources of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) to upload a DNA profile to attempt to identify a Jane Doe case from 1988; and

WHEREAS, NCMEC has a working relationship with Parabon Nanolabs which allows them to facilitate DNA testing and genealogy at no charge to the submitting law enforcement agency; and

WHEREAS, the Irondequoit Police Department would be responsible for developing a DNA extract and facilitating an upload into the only two genealogy databases accessible to law enforcement agencies. Those databases are GEDmatch and Family Tree DNA (FTDNA); and

WHEREAS, the Chief of Police has been advised that GEDmatch and FTDNA are sole source providers of public genealogy databases for law enforcement users;

WHEREAS, because GEDmatch and FTDNA are sole providers of the DNA testing required, the Town Board has determined that these services fall within the exception to competitive bidding requirements per §51-5(B)(9) of the Irondequoit Town Code; and

WHEREAS, NCMEC will help cover the cost associated with this DNA testing. The expected expense to the Police Department should be no more than $1,200.00, which is available in Police Contracted Services budget 001.3120.4120.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Town Board authorizes payment for genealogy testing in the amount up to $1,200.00; and

AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Town Board empowers the Town Supervisor to execute any and all documents related to this expense, provided they are approved by the Attorney for the Town.

This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.

tl;dr: NCMEC will help with the cost of getting Irondequoit Jane Doe DNA tested, and most likely worked on by Parabon Nanolabs!

I think if she was reported missing her report was probably lost as in the 50s and 60s missing person reports weren’t that well handled especially if the missing person is a runaway

Kathryn Zedick? Kathryn Grace Zedick – The Charley Project. She disappeared from the Buffalo area in the early 1980s; if the estimated date of death is correct, she's too recent.

Sorry I couldn't get the two photos' sizes to match :p

Hopefully, we'll know soon enough! I'm hoping for a swift identification + an obvious perpetrator once the ID is confirmed.

Irondequoit Jane Doe was discovered 34 years ago today.

I’m so stoked over the fact that she’s been green lit for forensic genealogy, and that we might get some answers to the many questions concerning this case *fingers crossed*

Of all the UIDs in Monroe county, IJD's NamUs is the one that's updated most frequently
*Bump*

Irondequoit Jane Doe's NamUs hasn't been updated in over ten months, which is a bit unusual considering how frequently it was updated earlier... I don't want to rush to conclusions, but I've also noticed that when forensic genealogy is used in trying to solve Doe cases, their NamUs rarely updates.

I'm also suspecting Othram's being sneaky again, since their collab with NamUs led to a boost of NYS cases ;)

Reading back through the Thread, going along with a possible connection to a criminal element, Sylvia Torgow seemed notable. As an escapee from Huron Valley Women's Prison (1970), it wouldn't be surprising to learn she had become involved with such persons -- whether through choice or a kind of necessity. Any physical resemblance?
