Clay, NY -- It had been two days since Steve Pieper or anyone else had seen his ex-girlfriend, Jenni-Lyn Watson.

He’d told two friends that he and Watson had talked on the morning of Friday, Nov. 19, and were getting back together. The friends, Alan Jones and Bryan Holleran, said Pieper appeared nonchalant for two days — even though Watson’s family was upset and questioning him, as were investigators.

They were already suspicious when Pieper told them about a mysterious black pickup truck parked outside Watson’s home in Clay when he’d left that Friday. A man was waiting for her inside the truck, Pieper told them. They thought: Really? Pieper just drove away with a guy waiting for her?

Kudos to these kids for reporting his lies and their suspicions back to the Police. I can't help by think though, that they have inadvertantly helped him with his defense with the 'roid rage' comment. Hopefully the jury won't buy it if that's what he goes with. RIP Jenni-Lyn, and prayers to the Watson family.

This is truly sad. I hope her abuser gets life, if not death. I think he is a rotten apple and cannot be helped. My prayers go out to the Watson's and their friends/loved ones as well.

Mandatory classes need to be taught in high school and college about how to spot the signs of an abuser and how to stay OUT of an abusive relationship. Domestic Violence 101. Young people need to be educated. Parents can do their part, but hearing about it amongst other peers helps too.

Then, there is only so much family/friends can do. The victim has to make decisions on their own to say NO to abusive behavior.
 
Sadly, SP will not receive the DP if he is convicted. He has only been arraigned on 2nd degree murder charges. In NY, the DP was declared unconstitutional in 2004 (People of New York v. Steven LaValle) But, for 2nd degree murder, the max sentence is 25 to life. And considering the circumstances, he will probably get the max.

The Liverpool man accused of killing his ex-girlfriend has been indicted by a grand jury. Steven Pieper is charged with second degree murder in the death of Jenni-Lyn Watson.
Pieper will be arraigned in Onondaga County Court before Judge Anthony Aloi at 8:45 a.m. Tuesday. That's according to a news release sent to CNY Central from the Onondaga County District Attorney's office.
The DA's Office also says that they know how Watson was killed. The indictment against Pieper says Watson was strangled on November 19, 2010, about a week before her body was found.

Syracuse (WSYR-TV) - A man from the Town of Clay accused of strangling and suffocating Jenni-Lyn Watson pleaded guilty Tuesday morning during his arraignment in Onondaga County Court.

Steven Pieper was charged with second-degree murder.

When he is sentenced, he will receive 23 years to life in prison.

Steven Pieper admits killing Jenni-Lyn Watson

Authorities believe Pieper intentionally killed Watson in her home that morning and then backed his car into the garage in order to place her body in the trunk without being seen by neighbors or passersby. He then drove to the nearby Clay Park Central where he disposed of the remains in a swampy, wooded area.

Authorities said Pieper covered the body with vegetation to try to conceal the remains which were found eight days later by law enforcement personnel searching the park area. Authorities have said they believe Pieper used Watson’s cell phone from that area to try to create an alibi for himself and cast suspicion on someone else.

But Fitzpatrick has said authorities focused attention on Pieper after his cell phone was found in Watson’s home the day she was reported missing

A 21-year-old man admitted in court Tuesday that he killed his former girlfriend while she was home from college for Thanksgiving break and dumped her body in a suburban Syracuse park.Steven Pieper of Liverpool pleaded guilty in Onondaga County Court to second-degree murder in the November slaying of 20-year-old Jenni-Lyn Watson. Pieper admitted strangling and suffocating Watson inside her parents' home in the town of Clay on Nov. 19 and hiding her body in a wooded area in a nearby park.
Both families were in the courtroom for the sentencing and fought back tears, then left quickly without speaking to reporters.

Birthday celebration honors Jenni-Lyns life
It was a celebration of Jenni-Lyn Watson's life. Thursday would have been her 21st birthday and friends held a celebration in her honor.
"It's special because she couldn't even survive for her 21st birthday and this way, at least she gets a celebration. Most kids look forward to their 21st birthday and going out. At least this way, she gets a celebration in her honor," said Samantha Lawrence, a classmate of Jenni-Lyn.
Kimberly Foody, a friend of the "Jenni-Lyn Watson Team," added, "I didn't know Jenni-Lyn myself, personally, but she's touched my soul. She's touched my life. And she will always be a part of my life."
