One of Aron’s co-workers told the NY Post that the suspect acted “completely normal” at work on Tuesday, a day after the boy’s disappearance.
“I can’t believe this,” he said. “He was a strange guy, but he was here yesterday and he was fine after killing this little boy.”

I wonder if the autistic part is true since only one agency is reporting it and it's a news channel out of Los Angeles, not even local. Perhaps it is being reported elsewhere and I haven't seen it?

If he was autistic, I just can't imagine his parents letting him walk alone at such a young age. I'm not blaming them at all - it just doesn't make sense to me.

Regardless, this has just saddened me beyond words.
all local media reported that he had no medical or physical problems or issues.. so not sure where ktla was getting the "autistic" from imhoo:twocents:

I have a child with Asperger's, and while in a way I do agree with you, I fight everyday with giving my child the independence that is so clearly wanted.

I was told my a therapist, one of them, to give that independence because my child is going to need that as a life skill (which is an aspect my child is missing).

This outcome here, it's a nightmare for any child, with or without a disorder of some sort (I hate calling it that).

Aron told police in a lengthy confession that when he encountered 8-year-old Leibby Kletzky on Monday afternoon, the child was lost and asked him for directions. He brought the boy to his apartment, police said, and spent "several hours" with him.

Then, as he heard the missing reports and the growing investigation, he "panicked" and killed the child, Kelly said.

I just looked through NCMEC and The Charley Project (for the last 15 years) and couldn't find any that could be(???). I looked for 13 yrs. and younger (boys).

Thanks PMLsmom - that is a lot of work. I am also seeing a reference to Little Rock as well but nothing has been mentioned in MSM about him living there. Am still trying to vet this information and chase it down.

who takes a little lost boy back to their apartment?

who kills a little boy when he finds out everyone is looking for him?

we all know why... this guy was a predator waiting to happen and decided to act that day... (moo)

eta: oh yeah.. and forgot to add: who goes to work the next day like nothing is wrong?????

Arkansas? If so, I'll start looking there...TIA

(snipped by me from the article)
Monday
5:05-5:40 p.m.: Three separate surveillance videos show the child walking alone along 44th to 18th avenues instead of turning down the street he was supposed to take to meet his parents. Police believe he was lost.

5:40 p.m.: Another video shows Lieby getting into a car with the suspect, identified as 38-year-old Levi Aron.

8 p.m.: Mobilization soon follows, with police checking some videos of nearby stores that are still open and They find a few videos of the boy standing alone at an intersection.

Tuesday
Late Afternoon: Video surfaces of the boy and the suspect outside a dentist office near where the child was last seen....

Evening: Police question a dentist who lives above the dentist office near where surveillance video captured the boy and the suspect....

10:30 p.m.: Police track down the dentist in New Jersey...he did not see the suspect as a patient...recalls him speaking to the receptionist....
Wednesday

Shortly after 12 a.m.: Police find the receptionist...

1:30 a.m.: Police return to the dentist's office, find the bill the suspect paid and learn his address and name from the paperwork.

2 a.m.: Police go to the building where the suspect lives....they discover bloody knives and some human remains in the refrigerator.

I am so impressed with the police work on this case. While I am disheartened that it did not save this child, their unrelenting efforts did result in the apprehension of the suspect, and the uncovering of the mystery of what happened to Leiby. I can imagine the painstaking work it was to go over frame-by-frame of the videos. No doubt many officers worked without rest to glean the info they needed. My hat is off to them and their dedication.

Thank goodness for these cameras that supply the video tools our LE can mine for clues. If only there had been cameras in Kyron's school we might know what happened to him as well.

I just looked through NCMEC and The Charley Project (for the last 15 years) for the State of Tennessee and couldn't find any that could be(???). I looked for 13 yrs. and younger (boys).

Those sites are just for those who are missing or unidentified IIRC, what about cases that remain unsolved but where the victim was found? Are there any ways to check those other than perhaps old news reports?

This man deserves nothing short of a slow and painful death. Makes me wish we lived in the old days where we could string him up and draw and quarter him in the town square. Evil, evil, evil man.

FWIW, here are several links that are also reporting Leiby was autistic:

There are so many variances in autism, it is impossible for me to cast judgement on the wisdom of allowing this young boy to walk alone if he was indeed autistic. I would surmise that many of us have known or worked with folks who are perhaps on the autism spectrum, but considered them simply odd or unfriendly, not knowing about autism and the socialization challenges it involves. The wide range of gifts and talents of these folks mean that some are able to go to regular schools and work in competitive employment and live independently. Most of my favorite people are somewhere on the spectrum.

Statement from Kings County District Attorney Charles J. Hynes

Following the vicious and callous murder and dismemberment of eight-year-old Leiby Kletzky, I have assigned two Senior Trial Assistants from the Homicide and Crimes Against Children Bureaus. I have directed the Assistants to promptly present the case to a Kings County Grand Jury and will ask the Jury to consider the maximum charges permitted by law.

As the Grandfather of 16 Grandchildren, my heart goes out to the parents of Leiby and I promise that I will ensure that we bring justice to his memory.

Here is a strange thought I just had. The way that the boy followed this guy, with so little discussion, made me think that their meeting might have been pre-arranged. Perhaps he was not lost, but he meant to meet up with this guy. Is that possible?

I have many pages to catch up, but your theory is possible. Perhaps he was grooming the boy and convinced him to beg his mom to let him walk for first time.

My gut is telling me LE will be able to piece this one together quickly.

A Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde case.

I agree with you. And while there is no death penalty in NY, I think that this guy will live the rest of his life in a living hell. From what I understand pedophiles and child murderers are considered the lowest of the lows in prison. Combine that with this guys wimpy appearance (see photo attached). Combine that with his religion (I am not sure, but I doubt it is a plus to be an orthodox jew in prison). Somehow, I have the feeling that Levi will be everyone's girlfriend where he is going. So, while he will not be drawn and quartered and while he might not get the DP, his life will probably be no picnic either. He will probably pay heavily for what he did.

in one of the comments on news site someone had a prediction which was an aha moment for me...

Lieby begged his parents to walk home that day
It was his first time he walked home
Most of us think he knew this person as on the video there is not much conversation before
Lieby walks to him as he crosses the road and then follows him

conclusion: this was someone leiby new and the meeting was prearranged, hence the wanting to walk home and him walking in a different direction even though his parents had gone over with him the route he was to walk .

he was killed because of the big fuss and search made for him....panic

I was thinking the same thing. though if Leiby knew the perp many of them kill to keep from being caught. They can't risk the child telling.

Police have arrested a fellow Chassidic community member, Levy Aron, after first discovering part of the boys’ body in a dumpster. Then, after entering the suspect’s apartment, police asked Aron where the boy was being held. Aron responded by pointing to the refrigerator where the gruesome discovery was made.

That's the first time I've seen the murderer as also Hassidic...has anyone else seen that?
