The closure today is probably due to a construction project and not part of the investigation. That area is part of Jones Beach which I believe has a regular NYS Park Police car stationed there 24/7. So it is unlikely that the SK would use that area. However, north of the Ocean Parkway and west of Wantagh Parkway there is a very deserted road called Bay Parkway. I believe this road sees much less traffic than Ocean Parkway. And it has a wide center median with trees and bramble (similar to the Ocean Parkway east of Gilgo). This area should be checked by LE, both on the north side and south side of Bay Parkway.

Official: Remains' condition delaying IDs

http://www.newsday.com/news/breaking/official-remains-condition-delaying-ids-1.2859902

"The scattered distribution of human remains, some dismembered, found this year on a South Shore island has delayed genetic analysis and potential identification, a police official said Thursday."

"Forensic experts were forced to take extra samples from the dispersed remains because some of them were incomplete and it was unclear if bones found in separate locations came from the same people, Suffolk police Chief of Detectives Dominick Varrone said at a hastily scheduled presentation before the county Legislature's Public Safety Committee."

"Preparation for a potential genetic match "became very time consuming because the manner in which these remains were disposed, it could have been one or more people combined," he said. "So rather than just take one sample from each find, they have to take multiple samples."

"It still is unclear how many victims all the remains represent, but Varrone acknowledged Thursday that some of the incomplete remains may prove to be from the same person or people."

"We absolutely do not have tentative IDs," Varrone said. "We would hope the submitted DNA will produce matches, but right now we don't know if it will or it won't."

I really hope these victims don't go unidentified. Someone must be missing these people, I mean, there's a CHILD in this group. Or maybe the remains had been there for so long that any close relatives are long gone by now? Is that possible? Don't they do some sort of beach/roadside clean-up in that area?

I go back and forth between thinking the remains are all (more or less) related and thinking that only the first four ID'ed woman are the work of this particular serial killer. But there was a fifth set of remains found VERY close to the first four so I don't know.

I'm finding it difficult to even continue to theorize on this case because we have no idea A) Where poor Shannan is and if she is connected to the SK and B) If these other ?6? sets of remains are connected to the first four and/or to each other.

Sorry I have nothing new to add, I'm just venting my frustrations. I had hoped that the new IDs would provide a solid link to the SK and solve this case. It's still possible, of course, but I hear things like this and I worry.

Re: Woman found dead in Riverhead Budget Motel

Henrietta Sholl
Location: West Islip, NY
URL: mylife.com/c-2327358447
Age 53
Places Lived:
West Islip, NY
Lindenhurst, NY
Bay Shore, NY

Police say she was homeless but what do you want to bet that this is her. Same name and same age and only one listed in all of NY per Intelius.

It is so strange to read of your SK's over there. Your country is so big that they can move around, and their victims too, so that the body-count is so huge. Over here in Britain our SK's (apart from Harold Shipman) don't kill so many before being detected.

Another Dead Woman found. This time in a seedy motel:

Suffolk Co Police have ruled this a homicide.

ETA: Police have not listed a cause of death but said "there was no weapon involved"

RIP Henrietta.

What's with all these women being murdered under suspicious circumstances on LI? This is the second one within a week, right? Is the homicide rate going up or are we just noticing incidents like this more because of the Ocean Parkway murders?

Last week, I asked the locals what was typical in respect to woman being found murdered on Long Island. Someone came back and said it was about one a year. I did a search last week and found yet another women found dead in the woods behind her house. People/neighbors suspect her newlywed husband. They were said to have argued and she walked out and then he left. When he got back she wasn't at home and hadn't taken her personal belongings with her. He said they were arguing over "drugs." So if you count this young mother, possibly with drug issues, and the 62 year old motel worker and now this Henrietta...well, that is three murdered women found right out in the open since the SK's body dump was unearthed and exposed...just makes you wonder.

Oh, and it is generally right in the center of the mapped "loop" that WS members have referred. And re: Ms Sholl, she appears to have a connection to West Islip, too.

News 12: "State Police have announced that the westbound Ocean State Parkway between the Wantagh State Parkway and Meadowbrook State Parkway, which is in the vicinity of Jones Beach, will be closed for an undetermined amount of time for a Department of Transportation construction project."

Sounds a bit fishy.

Not fishy at all. The Tunnel under the pkwy is crumbling and it will be closed for 3 weeks....

I don't think with the population of LI that the murder rate is above the national average. We have gang violence up the wazoo here and your typical domestic violence cases ,nothing over the top in that respect. Anybody have the figures?

Sorry if this has been posted and clarified before, but the following real estate interactive map indicates that house numbers 0 to 17 (which includes both JB's and GC's houses) are all on the north side of The Fairway (with numbers 20 upward all on the south side).

Hey Thanks for that Sillybilly, Odd to say the least but it does makes sense. I haven't ever seen that done before.

I'd go with the latter.

There are almost 3 million people between Nassau and Suffolk Counties.

I think she meant how many unidentified bodies are dumped somewhere. Not the amount of women murdered in a year.

In 2009 Suffolk County had 39 murders and Nassau had 30

I still believe Brewer is the guy. Since Amber Costello was only in the brush for about 3 1/2 months, I feel certain that law enforcement will be able to get some good forensic evidence from her remains. I think they are probably waiting on the forensics from all the other remains, still hoping to find Gilbert, and getting their ducks in a row, before arresting him & charging him.

I totally agree. There are inconsistencies in his story, she was running from his house, there's a 911 call unreleased. If it wasn't him, it was one of his associates.
One thing I can tell you. I live on LI, and the neighbors see everything. The police got over 600 tips...he's toast.

oh, and what kind of financial planner lets his house go into Lis Pendens?

About the number of murdered females in Suffolk County. It would be interesting to see what percentage of the females killed, in the last four years, are affiliated with "seedy" motels that are known for prostitution and drugs. And, to see if there is any consistency in the manner of death.

I've peripherally followed this case. The burlap part is what has stood out to me. Anyway, I'm watching a cooking show and come to find out Hawaiian folks use burlap when they cook whole pigs.

Many have speculated that the SK could be Asian...how about Hawaiian?

You won't find too many Hawaiians on Long Island.

I think it's a local guy from Suffolk County, blue collar worker, single or divorced, around 40, likes drinking and gambling, frequents casinos, may go to AC a lot.

BBM . As a general comment, I would say crime is going up on LI because people are under tremendous financial pressure. It's being swept under the carpet because it doesn't fit with the feel good message that the economy is getting better. There's a rise in petty larceny, home invasion, drug related violence and in particular domestic disturbances.

The death in the Riverhead motel is unrelated imo. She was homeless because she was only released from jail mid April and was living there. It's not a quality place and has a reputation as a place where drug trading goes on.

2 online escorts assaulted, robbed in NYC hotels
Associated Press

NEW YORK — Two prostitutes were assaulted and robbed in hotel rooms by a man responding to their online ads, and police on Friday were looking for two suspects.

[...]

The cases are not believed to be related to slayings of four escorts who advertised online. Their bodies were found along a desolate stretch of barrier island on Long Island. Six other sets of human remains have been found in recent searches, raising fears of a serial killer.
