Skeletal remains were spotted in Setauket on Sunday, prompting a police investigation, officials said.

Suffolk County police were seen investigating the human remains soon after they were found, around 4 p.m. on Sunday near at a stretch of the hiking and biking Greenway Trail off of Gnarled Hollow Road, police said.

The cause of death is unknown, and it was still unclear whether the remains belonged to a male or female, cops said.

SO glad to see this !!!! Heard about it and posted to RM's thread--------but looks like we have discussion going--------Psychedelia----on LI its easy to traverse between Nassau and Suffolk counties------he could easily have been in one county and landed in the next

That's what I figured! I also mapped it and saw that it was REALLY close to Dix Hills, but IF he was taking public transportation (since his car was found at the train station), it would be an annoying trip - lots of transfers. But super quick if he was in someone else's car, a cab, etc.

Hi Guys.........wondered who this was also.......and hoped we would get closure as regards Robert Mayer....wonder if this would relate to LISK??? Scary to think that LISK is branching out to another area.....
Have not heard anything on RM-----poster is still up on Local 3's site------I looked at another forum and no updates at all. A man claiming to be his brother spoke of a bad drug problem. This individual never came here as a verified insider so I take what he posted with a grain of salt.

Hopefully RM is alive and well. He just needs to contact his Mom and siblings. IMO Ida knows alot more than she has told. SHe has alot posted on her FB.

Suffolk County Crime Stoppers and Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad detectives are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the woman whose remains were found in East Setauket.

On March 22, 2015, human remains were found on the Greenway Bicycle Path in East Setauket. Detectives believe the remains were at this location for approximately a year. The woman is believed to have been white or Hispanic, 30 to 50 years old, between 5 feet 3 inches tall and 5 feet 9 inches tall. She had poor dental work.

Detectives are asking anyone with information on the identity of this woman to call the Homicide Squad at 631-852-6392.

Suffolk County Crime Stoppers offers a cash reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to an arrest on any crime. Anyone with information about the identity of the woman in the sketch above is asked to call anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.

5'3 to 5'9, that's a large height range!

Okay, so from the news link. This person is a female that was anywhere from 30-50 years old and from 5'3 to 5'9, Caucasian, and had died around March 2014ish.

It sounds as if the police still think that this missing person is still alive and homeless somewhere, so it's possible she could have made it up there. She also looks a decent amount like the sketch

She was a bit far away and it was longer than a year but she apparently took all her belongings and left so she could be alive to this day for all we know:

Those are all the ones that looked promising. I don't like the sketch of the Doe. She looks way too old. It's almost as if the artist has never seen a woman between the ages of 30 and 50 before.

Granted, went missing in Aug 2012, but her age could fit the description, and she went missing under very mysterious circumstances. She basically vanished into thin air. So, there is no tellings where she could have gotten to in two years, how she could have gotten there, or why. I'm grasping at straws but I joined WS b/c of her and have been looking at possible UI matches that are even "maybe, could be's" ever since. Since we have so little to go on with this Jane Doe I wanted to just throw Crystal's name into the pot and just see what y'all though. Very little chance it is her I suppose, but stranger things have happened, especially with missing person & IU cases. :thinking:

While going through ViCap I found someone I think may be a match, the time between disappearance and when the body was found bothers me. Because the sketch of this Jane Doe and the Manorville Jane Doe in the LISK case look so similar I think she bears a resemblance to her also.
