MIDTOWN, Manhattan (PIX11) – The CEO of UnitedHealthcare was killed in a Midtown shooting Wednesday morning, sources told PIX11 News.

Brian Thompson, 50, was shot just before 7 a.m. near a hotel on 54th Street between 6th and 7th Avenues, sources said. Video posted to Citizen showed police tape on the Midtown street as police arrived at the scene.

He was rushed to an area hospital and later died. Thompson was in New York City for an investors meeting at a Hilton hotel, according to sources.

The shooting is being investigated as a possibly targeted hit, sources said.

FYI, I suspect the unmasked pictures of the suspect from the hostel were not taken yesterday. Perhaps when he checked in? That would account for the different clothes.

I know it isn't him for obvious reasons, but he looks like Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, the Boston bomber.

They basically have him on video from the hostel to the Hilton and back. They know where he rode a bike, rode the subway, got a bite, etc. His movements on the day of the murder are pretty much established thanks to the sheer volume of surveillance equipment in NYC. What we are NOT hearing is where he went after the murder. Surely the same surveillance infrastructure caught him taking some steps towards freedom. My bet is LE knows he left Manhattan and could be anywhere, hence the full face picture. I still think he went over the GW into Jersey and possibly to EWR. That hostel was very strategically placed for such a getaway.

True.

And perhaps that "check-in coat" can now be used to ID him on video in the days leading up to the murder.

The ebike does not seem to be set up for the gunman rider. As such, this may be a bike that the gunman was not familiar with (perhaps a very recent purchase at a local store !!!)

It seems that the seat should have been raised much higher to properly fit the tall gunman. That didn't affect his ability to get away though, as he was not reliant on pedalling and was able to use the electric motor to propel him.

Also it seems that the gunman had poor control over the ebike when he was riding on West 85th street, as he was travelling in a weaving manner; not in a straight line, the way an experienced rider would do.

points that feel important

he knew Brian was leaving at the exact time
he could identify him
he knew Brian had no security
he knew Brian would be alone
a envelope with no letter is delivered to the home of his wife.
carved letters on the bullets

I think this is a personal dispute being dressed up to look like a another kind of plot.

I am very cynical about this,

if they get him he will have to talk. mOO

He is another good-looking murderer. I cringe to think he will probably get admirers. Ugh.

The two new photos:

The person is unmasked inside a hostel on the Upper West Side in New York City.
CNN has geolocated the two images to the hostel’s location.

No doubt police have talked to the reception person there, or whomever this suspect was conversing with. There may be more info on him, accent, physical features, whatever else.
Strange the roommates said he never took off his mask, but here he did, in front of cameras.

I think the reason he took off his mask is because someone at reception said something to him, like saying in a half kidding way "who are you hiding from with wearing your mask all day ????" And that's why the gunman was smiling, to joke it all off.

Anything about the victim or the perp should of importance ;
their attire or behavior, etc.
I admit I'm surprised Brian didn't have a coat on but maybe he had exited a warm vehicle and was going straight into the hotel lobby, so ...
We're going over the minutiae, whilst we wait for LE to apprehend the perp. ;)
Hope it's soon !

How despicable and cowardly to murder a man who was likely no threat to the perp, and whose back was turned away from him.
I am sorry for all who loved and cared about this man, esp. his family.
Rest in peace, Brian.
Ugh.
Omo.

Agree. But what’s bothering me is how young the guy is to be a hit -for-hire guy.

Thoughts?

Do we know when he checked in to the hostel. Review from 2 days ago reports "a very bad person" in his room. Of course could be anyone! Google Maps

ETA: No recent visitor photos I can see of any use.

I bet his picture was immediately forwarded to airport personnel, and they may be scouring airport video.

The walk from his hotel to the Hilton entrance across the street would’ve been roughly one minute in length.
