I just had a thought - I haven’t heard much about any ‘panic’ about the fact the gunman is still on the loose, at least from the MSM I’m watching. Is there a risk there could be another target? I don’t see how they could rule that out.

Are both of these pictures from the same place/time? Wonder why the first picture doesn't seem to show the backpack on his shoulder?
Nope, different times. One was at check-in at the Hostel and the other at Starbucks shortly before the killing. EDITING to acknowledge that these two pics are from same location, probably the Hostel desk.

Same background, same positioning. Maybe he set the backpack down for a moment. I think the men look different, but noticing the background and positioning, I'm rethinking that.

Don't you suppose if this was a hired hit, he'd be paid enough to get a better hotel room and not have to take the bus? You can argue that maybe those things are harder to trace, but with a good enough plan and enough $, the shooter could have been on a plane to a non-extradition country before his photo was released. I also think if this was a hired hit, the reconnaissance would have occurred on a separate trip and he'd be in and out of town quickly for the actual murder. It all seems a little sloppy and cheap for a hitman.

The background is identical...

Would it be possible that the hostel did not have availability for than one night, so he had to book some days, go somewhere more expensive, and then come back to the hostel?

JMO but I don't think the general public is at risk, given how specific this seemed to be, hence why MSM is not panicky. When there are random stabbings or shootings, the city is definitely on edge until that person is caught (I'm thinking of the random subway mass shooting in April 2022, people were terrified around here and it took days to get him)

That said I am quite confident that other people in his circle (UHC execs, HC execs of similar companies) are likely staying in undisclosed locations (vs their normal homes which are likely found via public sale records) with a security presence

Well, I guess I won't be staying in a hotel in Manhattan any time soon.
Nine days in that hostel would cost $1296. Add to that travel expenses and food - he went to some expense to pull this off. I wonder where he got the money and what he has left to live on while he is on the run.

Long post ahead, and it’s just my ramblings… but wanted to put them down here (for the exercise):

I think it is going to take a minute to find this guy. I think he’s basically a bold serial killer who essentially found his dream “job” in killing someone in a sort of organized terror-ish attack. He looks relaxed, charming… and we watched him behave calmly, smoothly, and without hesitation or any major screw ups. His plan worked.

United Healthcare experienced a ransomware attack in February, 2024, wherein hackers seized United Healthcare servers, and for which the company paid $22million in bitcoin to have released. That money goes into the ether—and it would sure buy a whole lot of pistols.

To my eye, this was a very well planned/organized attack where the shooter was able to identify a lot of loopholes and windows of opportunity and exploit them. He is very intelligent. He selected a target, probably planned meticulously for weeks or months, arriving in NYC weeks early. He then had to acquire an e-bike, and needed a place to store it, so he chose a hostel… both because he wanted to blend in, but also because he could store that bike he would soon need.

The weapon he used was a very expensive ($5700!) specialty gun used to dispatch sick/wounded animals. I do not believe it’s a coincidence that a weapon for the “sick/wounded animal” was used to kill the United Healthcare CEO — it has the hallmark of a taunt (which we saw echoed in the writing on the bullets).

Here’s a write up on the gun: VP9 Suppressed Pistol from B&T: The Silent Helper – Small Arms Defense Journal

The article above shows a photo (attached) of how the gun breaks down into many component parts (useful for traveling), and that can be tossed into trash, bit by bit over time, undetected and therefore lost forever.

It also describes the handling of the gun, and helped me understand why the shooter’s two handed grip seemed slightly unusual, especially as he cycled the spent casings and extra unspent rounds.

My wild guess is this guy has money and well-funded backers, is part of a larger anarchist/anticapitalist network that has tentacles overseas expressly so they can commit crimes. I believe he is long gone out of the US.

IMO the killer is very smart, tech savvy, spoiled, and possibly an anarchist/anti capitalist fundamentalist sort (would also tie in with & explain the bus, train, hostel and electric bike mode of transport). He might be vegan. I know—I’ve really gone off on my analysis here!

I hope I am dead wrong, but this is my feeling about the case and why. It has a bit of a “new world order” kind of feel to it, IMO. A very different crime, and yes, my ideas are indeed very cinematic. But here we are.

Bookmarking this post so I can find it and eat my words in the future.

<SBM> He might be vegan.
just this haha

One thing's for sure. He's definitely got access to some serious funds. All started with the overly expensive backpack!

I presume he didn't bring an ebike on the Greyhound. So where did he get the ebike? Did he buy it from a store or buy it second hand? Did he steal it?
Lots of opportunities to get access (legally and illegally in NYC). Many ebikes are stolen and resold to unsuspecting people on the regular-- it is not uncommon that bikes change hands multiple times between different groups/gangs before being sold to some one in the market.

I believe the backpack is old, but yes— he has seriously expensive kit.

The trainers too, these are not Allbirds brand but they are similar, so probably pricey too.

Seems like he must have picked it up in NY after he arrived there. Many cities have bikes that you can rent to get around.

It's giving a Catcher in the Rye vibe.
